I just moved to Philly from out west and miss my Cricket Phone :( But I just saw a Billboad today for them :D Does anyone know what phone will be out with the release?

They should bring all of the Tri-Band phones there. Soon they are going to release the replacement for EZ phone. They are first bringing out replacements of there old phones before doing anything else.

No, this is not right at all, there is no conspiracy here by Cricket. Think about it. If Cricket was really concerned about making sure people were only buying their phones then they wouldn't allow any foreign ESNs on their network. But they do. LOTS. Cricket makes their money from the services they sell, and they love flashed hanRABets.

Tri-Band (or AWS) hanRABets were introduced because Cricket didn't have any spectrum in some of the areas that they are now expanding into. They won the rights to new spectrum in the AWS auction. The frequency is different, but the towers are still broadcasting a 1x CDMA/EVDO signal. This is the same signal that their "old towers" are broadcasting as well.

They are not going to phase out the "old towers" and replace them with Tri-Band either. There is no technical reason to do this. If they have established towers in an area then that obviously means that they have the spectrum available to offer service there without using the AWS frequencies. It would just be an expensive waste of time to migrate everyone.

Tri-band isn't about selling phones, it is about providing service to new areas where they never would have been able to operate at all prior to the auction.

Is your old Cricket phone Tri-Band? If it's not tri-band, you will need a new phone. I believe if you use a non tri-band phone in a tri-band area it's considered roaming. There should be some sales coming up soon though. Non Tri-band area's are reporting that no-one wants to spend the money on a tri-band phone and that customers would rather buy phones that are flashed and a lot cheaper than the new phones Cricket has been bring out.

Well said and exactly right. Tri-band expanRAB not replaces.

And Cricket has been building their net work in Philly for quite some time. They didnt just start. That will be very apparent when their coverage area exceeRAB that of Metro. The service should also be much more robust.

It would seem very redundant for Cricket to enter the Philly market given the roaming agreement that they have in place with MetroPCS who is already in the area. If the two companies ever plan to merge, Philly and Vegas will just be wasted effort.

Am I wrong?

Do you think Cricket will be much better in New Jersey, specifically South Jersey, than MetroPCS is right now?

If they are, I don't think I have much to worry about. They allow roaming for free, which is nice. :)

Yea I gave my Cricket phone away to a friend before the move and am using a prepaid at&t now and am sick of overpaying (Bad Credit FTW!!!!)... Does anyone know of any promotional phones and plans that we'll be getting? I'm trying to get everyone I know to switch over when they get here haha!

they are coming to philly massive amount of employment positions available on there website for philadlephia... this should b interesting i was reading in a local paper that they filed plans space on exsisiting towers in my area.

It isn't that metropcs is bad by any stretch of the imagination. It is just that cricket and metro seem to have different ideas when they go into a market.

Cricket will build out a network, take there time with phones, and everything else, metro will jump into a market with a few towers, put whatever phone they can onto the market and then slowly build out from there..

That is what happened here anyways.
