Cricket in Philly!!!!

I keep forgetting about that.

All will be good then :)..

Cricket has a roaming agreement with metro & about 10-15 other partners around the country,.

It would be nice if they would merge before they spend money in Philadelphia. I know Cricket creates competition for MetroPCS but if they merge they won't need to spend money expanding in areas that MetroPCS already serves.

What does everyone think? Do you think MetroPCS and Cricket should merge?

So you said Cricket usually builRAB out their network better before launching. When they launch, do you think they will be covering South Jersey better than MetroPCS or do you think they're going to stick closer to Philadelphia?

I'm hoping when they launch there's a signal all over South Jersey so I can roam for free. :)

They allow roaming on Verizon but it is expensive. Like 80 cents per minute. There is free text messaging while roaming though, if it is included in your plan.

Nonetheless, it just means you will have a one-two punch in terms of coverage. No matter if Cricket opens large or small, there will still be that Metro service backing their customers up, and vice versa. This is just a way to sell more phones and get more customers, so it's business as usual.

I personally think it's a win-win situation for customers in an area equipped with both Metro and Cricket after the 10-year partnership agreement.

If the two companies do eventually merge, which is most likely going to happen in order to stay competitive with other carriers, they will just sell off the extra bandwidth. T-mobile will most likely gobble it up, even in the future, to expand their AWS footprint for their 3G.

It won't be conidered a waste of money for Cricket to put up there own towers. All of the new Cricket areas are getting Tri-Band towers. They are supposed to give better signal strength over a larger area. If a Metro area has the normal Dual-Band towers, the Cricket towers will be better for customers.

Also, a lot of dealers in areas that are not Tri-Band are not selling the Cricket phones as much as they are flashed phones, becasue the flashed phones are cheaper and many people believe are better phones. Making all new areas Tri-Band means in the new areas, a dealer will have to pay more to get a newer Tri-Band phone and flash it than dealers in the old areas. Customers using a flahsed phone will be charged roaming minutes for using a non Tri-Band phone in a Tri-Band area. To avoid using roaming minutes, customers that want to travel in those areas buy a new Cricket phone in order to use it there instead of using their flashed phone when they travel.

Evenutally, all of the old towers will be phased out and everyone will have to purchase the Tri-Band phones. That's why Cricket will put up new towers. In the long run, they'll make more money that way.
