In instances like the following, does the ability still go into effect if the trigger is countered?
On a card like Battlegate Mimic: (1)(R/W) Battlegate Mimic p/t- 2/1 Whenever you play a spell that's both red and white, BG Mimic becomes 4/2 and gains first strike until end of turn.
If the controller of the mimic casts their RW spell and it is countered, does he still get the ability trigger?
Another scenario I'm wondering: Pyromancer Ascension - Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell that has the same name as a card in your graveyard, you may put a quest counter on Pyromancer Ascension.
Same deal; they play a spell that meets the requirements to put a quest counter on the ascension and it is countered by a Negate, Mana Leak, etc. Do they still get the quest counter?
