Countdown - so much better these days!

Well I'd watch it if Ann Widdecombe was putting the letters out as it is a light hearted entertaining quiz show with a slightly intellectual content not a beauty contest or fashion show.

Tbh I am not that keen on Rachel as
1) She is a Man U fan (and I support Liverpool)
2) I liked Carol who comes from the part of North Wales where I live. I also met her once (in 1992) when she did a talk for some Maths teachers in our area and I know her Mum who used to work where I used to work. Nice people all. I have written to Carol to donate items for charity auctions in the past and she has always responded.
(Rachel on the other hand is from Sarfend!!)
and
3) At times she takes the mick out of Jeff which he takes in good heart but she seems a bit touchy if she gets it back.

None of this would make me not watch the prog tho as I watch it for the quiz not the presenters
 
They record five shows per filming day. Based on the times you've given, you should see three shows recorded.

They take a break for an hour or so after they film three shows, then record another two in the evening (or in the late afternoon, if it's a day on which they've started recording in the morning).
 
Glad I'm not the only one who's noticed then. Yesterday, I got pretty annoyed about how little screen time she got until I realised it is meant to be a letters and numbers game - not teatime softcore. :o
 
Perhaps this thread ought to be renamed the 'Rachel Appreciation Society' ! I am one of those people who, strangely enough, actually enjoys the programme as a whole!

Rachel is intelligent, witty, articulate and beautiful - but why or why doesn't somebody tell her that 'times them together' and 'times it by' are horribly ungrammatical - even the contestants are following suit now. Schoolchildren watch 'Countdown' and are probably copying her - to the consternation of their teachers!
 
Thanks for that - I must admit I have had spells when I have not watched every single episode in a series (pre Sky+) but I can remember a Scrabble guy being good (from Cleveland was he?) - prob the Craig Beevers you refer to.

Since Jeff (and Rachel - lol) took over with the Sky+ I have hardly missed an episode.

What a nice surprise to see Jerry Springer as the guest in dictionary corner today. Jerry's not at all like his talk show persona, he's naturally witty and charming and I always enjoy watching him on UK shows. Finally on her 8th day, he even managed to cheer Mrs. sour face up a bit! :p
 
Really close game for a change today, felt sorry for the challenger, I thought he had it in the bag.

I'm sure I remember Barry Cryer telling the same story when he was on before. A bit lazy isn't it, when he can't be bothered to think of something new.

I missed yesterday (Thursday)'s show, which is when I presumed Kirk scored 130. If so, then yes, it is definitely the highest score in an ordinary game as he got 127 earlier in the week which was also a record.
Can't remember if Jeff said the 127 was the highest score ever, as I know that in the early days of Countdown the final was done differently, or just the highest score in a normal game.

FURTHER EDIT: :) - After reading the 'highest scores' page. I think Jeff probably meant that 127 was the highest score this series. Still a bit :confused: though
