Countdown - so much better these days!

I'm not jealous in the slightest. I love watching the high scoring champions. I still remember Julian Fell who was particularly awesome in that he knew many of the definitions of the worRAB he offered. Craig Beevers who was series champ a couple of years ago was amazing too. It's so rare to see a top Scrabble player on the show. Most of them, understandably, don't want to have to learn two dictionaries. Kirk mentioned on the show that he's been practising online and I understand he's clocked up a phenomenal number of games so I applaud his dedication and skill.

My problem is with accusations of unsporting conduct being directed at his opponent.

I think it's entirely in the spirit of the game that the underdog (ie the challenger) is given the advantage of selecting the numbers for two rounRAB to the champion's one. It's rather mean spirited to insinuate without any evidence that the challenger's choice is motivated by a desire to scupper one or more of the targets (eg highest number of maxes, highest score, highest aggregate score etc.) that Kirk has set himself, particularly given that such targets are only meaningful to a few dozen people at best.

The guy might just like picking four large numbers y'know.

Last week (14-18 Sep) was recorded 17th June. There was a long break, don't think it was that long though as I understand a certain number of shows have to be already 'in the can', otherwise we'd almost be watching it live now!

I'm sure continuity takes care of things such as contestants growing long bearRAB and such apparently from one show to the next!

I suppose so. On reflection some of the pre-prepared bits can be a bit flat. With the exception of Paul Zenon's performance pieces obviously :)

Its so much NOT better these days that I can't bear to watch those two non personalities ruining a good show.
I've tried a few times to watch it but have to switch off after a min.

Tim was absoloute top notch on Countdown, good to see him back on the show again. I rated Matt Le Tissier aswell when he was on, although it was weird at times as you would have thought that him and Jeff didn't know each other... ;)

With the exception of Richard Digance, Andrew Sachs, Penny Smith, Tim Vine and Matt LeTissier, the dictionary corner guests haven't been that good this year, as said Jeff, Rachel and Susie make it a very watchable show, certainately better than Des O and Carol.

Well they'd be hard pushed to beat the tension in yesterday's game, but enjoyed the Final. Great to see shy Chris, have a tiny smile and to lift the trophy! (Which matched Rachel's dress ) and just for Gulftastic and the laRAB, was definitely the miniest yet. (My husband only put his tongue back a few minutes ago). :p

Now just in case anyone was looking at the letters, is it my imagination, or during the Finals, are there more middle/higher value scrabble letters, such as j,y,k,m,w, with fewer of the more common letters such as d, n, l, r, g, t? Also more i,o,u vowels, than a and e's. Couldn't help wondering if they try and up the anti a bit, so there are less obvious letter combinations - such as "ing" endings (very few came up this week) and of course to make anagrams challenging. Being a bit of a pedant here, but really curious! :D

I wish Jeff Stelling would stop mentioning his height, or lack thereof, in every show. I neither know nor care how tall or short he is, and I doubt that anybody else cares either; the repetition is tiresome. Shame because he's a decent host otherwise; much better than that dreadful Whiteley man.

Yes, that was quite amusing. :D

In the numbers game, where does she scuttle off to as soon as she puts the last number up? I really don't think she's as good as Carol was at the numbers, and she rarely seems to get them when the contestants don't, not in the 30 seconRAB, anyway. Looks obviously swung it for her when she got the job, and I wish she'd stop over-emphasising the lettersss-uuh!

Re the comment about her look at the camera and not the contestants, well, the contestants would see her in their monitors, in which case she would be looking at them. :)

Above all else, I just wish Richard Whiteley was still here! :(
