Cooked a horrible meal and...?

yeah ok

I decided to cook a big dinner after not cooking for people for almost a year. It ended up being a horrible experience almost immediately.

I cooked for my boyfriend and his family (parents). I made some curry chicken (with precooked chicken and beef since the store actually didn't have any raw meats). So that was already bad from the beginning.

THEN I overcooked the rice, undercooked the potatos for a potato salad, made the curry to watery, etc. I am a firm believer in not making people eat bad food, but my boyfriend was like, "no, feed it to them. it's not bad." but he was totally trying to keep a straight face. I am SO embarassed because I used to cook so well.

Do you think I am overreacting or should I throw the food away now before any of them actually start eating it?

Thanks.

Don't serve them bad food, and how did you lose your touch in one year if you were a good cook?? Also, how did the store not have raw meat??? That just doesn't make any sense! Order takeout.

It would be rude to serve them nothing.
Get some carry out to bring in...
Or serve it and hope that they are gracious.

In either case, you will live (despite embarrassment) :)

feed them the food.. it will be something you can laugh at years from now..it is not about the food it is about the experience.....tel them you cooked it to see if they will still like you after eating it ..besides it will tell you if they are honest and you get to see their faces when the take the first bites...enjoy.

It it were me, I would do one of two things: I would order take-out and put the meal in the freezer for your boyfriend to eat, since he says it was good. I would order a nice pasta with a great sauce, some salad, and bread or breadsticks.. Do not feel bad though, it happens to all cooks. OR, you can try to fix it by adding sour cream to the curry, remaking the rice, and as for the potato salad, unless it is total mush (in which case you could run to the local store and buy some premade, or get a salad instead) I would serve it. Good luck and don't stress!

well you have to be true to yourself, so definitely go with your gut instinct. if you think it's bad, then throw it away or put in the fridge for your "boyfriend" to eat.

Leave the food in the kitchen and order pizza or take out. After you've all eaten, you can tell them the story about the horrible meal you made, and you can take them into the kitchen to try it for themselves. You can laugh about it and tell them that next time you'll try something different.

Every good cook makes mistakes. It happens to everyone. The key is to be able to laugh at yourself, and encourage others to see the humor with you.
