Considering going to Mayoclinic for an unknown illness

I've been fighting a mystery illness for over a year now. I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, mitral valve prolapse, Polycystic ovaries, migraines, kidney stones, eczema, and allergies to name a few, but nothing can explain my recurring collapses, syncopes, and other concerning issues. I've seen Rheumatologists, Internal Medicine specialists, Neurologists, Urologists, Cardiologists, Sleep specialists, and pain management doctors and no one can seem to put my abnormal test findings together with my symptoms to figure it out.

Anyway, I'm considering going to Mayoclinic to see if maybe we can finally get this figured out. It is going to be a very long drive for me as well as expensive I'm sure. I was curious if anyone has had experience with going to the one in Minnesota and how the process works? I hate going into something without knowing what to expect.

Thanks!

I just began going to Mayo in October and have to say it's been a very positive experience thus far. I went for radiation treatments for thyroid cancer and will continue follow ups with the with endocrinology. Although it's a big place the care seems very personal.

It's a long way for me too - I fly. There are many lodging options nearby - some equipped with kitchenettes for longer stays. There are often discounts given for Mayo patients. I was able to stay in an American Cancer Society lodge during treatments, thankfully. If you have questions, feel free to drop me a message.

The Cleveland Clinic has a program similar to Mayo where all the specialites work together for a patient. If Cleveland is closer, you might look into them.

I agree with Tichou. The Cleveland Clinic is much closer to you; it has treated Saudi
kings and princess, and the U.S. News & World Report that evaluates hospitals usually
puts the Cleveland Clinic on par with the Mayo Clinic. Plus, the closer distance will make
any follow up visits to Cleveland much easier.

Thanks for your responses. I'm just checking my options before making this big decision. I'm hoping with the support of my loving hubby and friends we can make it happen. My biggest problems now are getting there and finding the time to make the trip. Unfortunately I am terrified of planes, heights, and closed in spaces so flying anywhere is not an option I go into hysterics....not pretty. Then I also can't drive because of my episodes and pain. So hopefully we'll be able to work something out so I can start feeling better. I'm so ready to get some of my life back!
