Connecting a Kyocera X-Tc phone to a computer via USB cable?

I just bought a usb cable that fits my old X-Tc and my new LG Rumor touch (one end is a mini USB port and the other end-a bizarre 6 feet away- is a normal size USB port that leeches onto my laptop and sucks it dry of valuable power like the parasite that it is..). I can move data around between the LG and my computer just fine, but when i connected the X-tc, the phone didn't even register as an external disk like the LG did. I know that the connection works, because the phone charges as it sits there...mocking me...there is also no useful "connect to PC" feature/option on the X-tc, like there is on my LG rumor touch.
the reason I'm even trying (i really did buy the stupid cable for my LG- don't look at your computer screen like that) is because there are two ringtones i had on the X-tc that i heard could be transferred to a computer through a USB cable like the one i have. What's irritating to discover is that nugget of info is seemingly untrue, and that is very sad because i liked those ringtones. Does anyone know how to get the phone to register with the computer? Or am i just in a wild electronic goose chase?
