hah where'd this come from.

You tone it down fella...we don't need them big bold letters clutterin' up these boarRAB ya hear?

K..in all seriousness...wait..i don't know where this outburst by you came from tbh

i like his stuff but i left the few albums i had at home. i can't get them on torrents, so i can't listen. gay. anywhere else where i may procure his works through, shall we say, slightly illicit means?

We're up to three songs Sloth, it seems that's all you've done but I'm not sure whether I need to pour through your old songs

This is ridiculous and I'm going to have to give you like a week at least, I don't care if you make another account but three songs, one by someone who has a book, is out of control

Awesome. I had a burst of poem/songwriting a few weeks ago...I wrote like five songs a week for a few weeks straight. Usually I only write a few "keepers" a month (I write songs quite often, but unless they seem special from the get-go I usually trash them). I was just in the perfect mindframe for writing, then I quit smoking pot, and I haven't written anything since then. I don't think pot was helping me write better, but I think quitting it changed the state of mind I was in, and now I've gotta wait until I find another writing groove. I've also been in a really bad mood for the past week, and for some reason I can't write when I'm unhappy. I find I can only write well when I'm really happy and satisfied with my life. I'm in a good mood today though, maybe I'll produce something good this weekend.

Let's pray.

Aye, magnus is definitely pretty good, and crimson hanRAB seems to be fairly competent. I've not read anything by CDG yet though.

We've had a few decent n00bs recently, come to think of it - Mitch2oo6 isn't an awesome writer just yet, but he's working hard with his critiques and whatnot.

Let's hope it continues.

Of course not - one dodgy image does not a bad song make, but I'll probably enjoy the song a little less. An example of this is Jimmy Eat World - Jim Adkins' writing over the past couple of albums has fallen away somewhat - I still enjoy the music, but lyrically he has kind of stagnated. It doesn't mean I hate Jimmy Eat World, I still enjoy the music just as much, it just means I don't really enjoy their newer stuff as much as the old albums, as the lyrics aren't as good.

Another example is a band called The Blackout. A friend recommended them to me, so I gave them a listen - musically I quite liked the track I heard, but at one point in the bridge, the lyrics were along the lines of:
"I die
You cry
We Lie
Everytime."

That ruined the band for me - I haven't listened to them since, so I guess it's the extent of the cliche - a really horrible one might put someone off, but a minor one every now and then isn't going to end your songwriting career.

Yes, it's a horrible rhyme. Even Bob Dylan forces a rhyme every now and then. I won't go into it now, as I don't fancy a big argument on it, but I don't really like Dylan's stuff much at all - he has his moments, but on the whole I don't think he deserves the level of adulation he gets.

The thing is, when you use examples like that is that you're assuming that because it's written by someone famous for songwriting that it MUST be an amazing lyric that no-one else can touch.
Be honest, we see stanzas of that quality or better most weeks here - not because we have brilliant writers here or anything like that, (although we do have some excellent writers at times) but because it's not really that amazing.
Look at it objectively, break it down, it's not really that complex or well-written. Perhaps I have an unfair advantage here as I've never heard this particular song, and therefore aren't putting it to music, but yes, those are forced rhymes. Personally, I disliked the vain/chain rhyme more than the me/key rhyme anyway.

On a completely unrelated note, is it just me or am I holding up the UK end of things on my own in here at the moment?

If you want a short read, and a fantastic read, at that, read Night by Elie Wiesel. It's his experience in the holocaust and how he beings losing faith in God because of what happens. It's depressing, but a good read.

Yeah, I agree with you mozz, although having said that, I got some excellent crits on my last piece, which I intend to return. Dunno about you guys, but I'm going to make a conscious effort to really kick some gimp n00b butt. Not quite APS style, but I'll definately be critting, and critting hard.

Yeah, I think it is Ludicris to have a forum without a mod, I mean, I've been here for a while (3/4 of my years), but only now started posting and criticing, and I have to tell you a mod would shape things up. Has no one ever even tried to suggest it?

As for the punctuation, I feel really moved to make a thread about it, but Im not sure what I would say, writing is second nature to me, so I guess all i can do is keep correcting it as I have been.
