Community Thread / Tips and Questions

My favourite writers are John Irving and John Steinbeck, if you're talking about novelists.

Favourite songwriters are Morrissey and Billy Bragg.

edit: and I'll get around to your songs guys, I swear. I'm just not in a critiquing mood at the moment.

All I've been painting with lately is acrylic. I frigging hate acrylic on it's own, but if you throw a lot of water and paper towels in, you can get insane stuff going.

I usually don't care how cliche they are.

Sometimes my first lines will be cliche because they get my mind going, and then after that I start thinking of better stuff.

It was My Bloody Valentine's Loveless cover, or part of it. I don't listen to them much anymore; in fact, I never really did. I just liked the cloudy look.

Thanks for the crit, by the way. I was listening to Waits at the time I wrote it, and that's exactly the sound I had in mind.

I bought Rain Dogs today. Still haven't listened to it, though. :p

I've got a nine page thread, I feel good.

Anyways, has anyone been stuck in a songwriting rut for more than two months? I can't seem to get any good lyrics together. Honestly. Everything I think of right now sucks, and worst of all, refuses to be compiled into simple, working order. Grr.

When I get a picture of the art I'll post it but in description...
Up the back of my arm will be taughannock falls (http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&q=taughannock&btnG=Search+Images) which is in my town (just north, but in the county. If anyone has seen an Ithaca Is Gorges shirt, the I is actually taughannock) which will become a tree truck into branches at the top, 5 main branches one for each family member. Each will represent a different season (I live in a super temperate area so seasons are very well defined, dad- born in the fall, mom born in the spring, me born in winter and my sister and brother were born in summer) Those will be all over my shoulder, shoulder blade, chest. The fifth branch will become nerve endings across my upper back and at the end they will begin to fire off making the fifth branch for my brother who has Multiple Sclerosis and after the fired nerves, it will become smoke.

The whole idea behind the tattoo is permanence. Earth outlives family, family outlives our bodies, and in the end all we are is dust and ash. Morbidly uplifting.

Surf, that link is dead.

NIce. Hopefully it will work out better this time. I like Bright Eyes...a lot. F&M is their best album along with A Collection of Songs, and Letting Off the Happiness. Then comes lifted and the two new ones for me. Digital Ash, in my opinion, has better lyrical writing than I'm Wide Awake.

Older Oberst is better.

Since APS seems to be the only one that likes BE here...this is to him...go to NPR website at 9.30 this Saturday because Conor Oberst is playing a live preformance.
