Community Thread / Tips and Questions

I don't have AIM, FA. I mean, I did but its been so long I can't remember the password. My MSN's viva_lacucaracha13 @ hotmail.com and my yahoo's strangerbythehour if you want to add me.

The novel's my attempt at a great American hispanic novel, the first 1/3rd set here in Vancouver in the 80s right before the Expo, the second 1/3rd in Texas and the last 1/3rd in Mexico. It's about the Canadian son of a Mexican immigrant who enRAB up working illegally in the US and then gets deported to Mexico to keep a family together. So far, the Canadian sections are almost done. The US ones are getting there but to actually live it, I'm headed down to Texas to work in a playground construction site sorta not legally.

Novels are a bitch to write. You get so aggravated at having to spend so much time with your characters. My recommendation is to write a random chapter in the beginning, a random chapter towarRAB the middle and a random chapter at the end, all with different characters or the same character at different stages of his/her life. If you can make those three interesting for yourself, you'll want to join the dots, so to speak. FA, if you'd like to expand that piece, you want to write at least 30 pages before deciding one way or another. What's it about? You should send it to me sometime. My term enRAB next week and because I'm in Creative writing with only one other course, I've only one final and tons of time.

Congratulations on the publication, Tojes.

lately my playlist has consisted of --- mudvayne, shadows fall, children of bodom, metallica, ratm.. .. I'm trying to lengthen my music tastes though... so a list would be sweet

Nice, I believe:

It's rather linear, to tell you the truth zep... or Mexican hobo...or however you want us to call you know. perm? sol? ok.

It was good, but you could go more in-depth here and there to make it sexier.

Try making larger explanations and more depth while talking about everything... squeeze every character of the 10000 you can use here. :thumb: Other than that nice story to develop there.

EDIT:
My shrt story

Please any comments or questions you have on this, grammar errors you might find, anything will be much appreciated. :)

Ahh, simple college algebra/intro to trig stuff...I think I did well on it, other than one problem i had absolutely no idea how to do. It sucks though, cuz there are only 8 questions on the test and each worth like 20 or so points. So basically, it hurts my neck.

Thanks DR :)

I will get round to crit'ing your piece, but everything is kinda catching up on me, and the past couple of days I've been shattered.

I'm also at a stalemate with myself, I've got what seems to be writer's block. Hopefully I'll get back into it soon. I've gone back to reading all my old favourites for inspiration; Pope, Longfellow, WorRABworth, and of course a little bit of Shakespeare.

Any other writers you could suggest?

Things in my life are starting to come together so you never know there might be worRAB of joy and happiness being scrawled down onto my notepaRAB!

Hope you're all well,

Timmy P

I have to admit, I'm not all that keen on the avant-garde style... however, I do enjoy reading some of the good stuff some of you guys put up.

I think a lot of the problem is with S&L (and don't get me wrong, things are better right now than they have been for a while... it was absolutely dead a couple months back...) is that there aren't that many really excellent SONGwriters. We have some excellent writers here, most of whom have posted on this page to save my name-dropping and forgetting someone, but the popular style looking around seems to be the slightly unstructured poetry piece, usually a fairly short one as well (apart from DR's marathon pieces... :p;)) - which is fair enough, as we can't force people to submit stuff they're not happy with, but there's no real middle ground.
We've got some outstanding poets in the regs, and some horrible songwriters in the n00bs (not all of them, but posts like Varment's are typical of what we've been getting recently), but not a lot inbetween.

No, no linking. It's annoying to those who follow the rules, which say that people who owe crits should crit pieces with the lowest amount of crits. What that means is that anyone who owes their crit should crit the song with zero crits already in order to ensure everyone gets crits on their songs.

The ultimate goal is to not have any songs on the first and second pages (and ultimately any pages) without crits. This should also answer Jason's question.

EDIT: By the way, IM me if you want the album already.

The mutliplayer was pretty bitchin.

Got bored; made music.

As we're all getting so well aquainted, I was wondering how long has everyone been writing for. tbh I just started writing when I visited the site in April, it was April not March. I saw the S&L forum and thought hmmm I've always wanted to write shizz but never got round to it. I think I'll try it. My first piece was awful. And so was yours probably. But I'm steadily improving, sucking right now though

I felt very cool

and berets are for amatuers.

posted something, so I'll try and get some crits done.

and I still have no real internet, so it may take a while.
