Community Thread / Tips and Questions

Good movie and all, but the actor looks like Kevin Nash (Big Daddy Cool Diesel).

I think the personality of Beeker (just on basis of appearence even!) is much more enjoyable.

London eh? I nearly went to UCL, but went somewhere cheaper.

I'd love to live somewhere as busy as London, there's always something going on, gigwise.

Exeter is pretty boring for that kind of thing

I like I like. This one especially (http://psychictv.deviantart.com/art/1-1-76688045). I'm crap at painting, but just do it when I'm bored.

might aswell throw up the myspace music stuff, to show my extracurricular things and all

mostly ambient stuff, but the first one's my attempt at house music. Like justice/daft punk thing.

Well, actually, "S&L file send thread" Should have been killed a while ago, and the "top 20 amateur list" is also a big flunk, it's not used, I tried to revive it and only Archimedes wanted to play along., Songwriting and poetry 101 is another thread that flunked because of stupidity/immaturity/NOT READING THE RULES... that makes 3 stickies with no use, at any rate. so asking for three de-stickiments, against one sticky, I guess it shouldn't be a problem.

I think taht there are some reall big time deep issues in this community, and they're just getting patched/fixed, but not taken care of from the roots themselves of the problem. It's rather horrible to see how I crit a trillion songs, and the kiRAB just get a good crit pointing out issues, but with a objective view on it, and run away scared of the badness of their songs. Then, there are the insistant(is that the word?) people who get the big name thread tha just make you turn them down before you even read them, and... well. It just goes on and on and on. But apparently, neither we are listened, and this is no democracy, so we can only expect that people change. By themselves. Under no pressure. :(

that seems cool but i wouldnt want to spend the time
i do like to make little poems out of the random word magnets people sometimes put on their refrigerators
that seems like somewhat the same tactic

I think it's a great idea. But how many people are going to have time and be willing to write an indepth crit? A scarce few would do it I reckon. I would consider attempting a crit after I've finished school at the end of the week depending on weather the thread will submerge into the murky depths of the S&L forum or actually work. It's a good idea, I definitely support but I think it's asking a bit too much maybe? Just have to wait to see things pan out I guess

I kind of see where you're coming from, Slack, and it's always been something I've tried to avoid... I'm not a fan of those pieces where the descriptive imagery goes overboard to the point of being incomprehensible, not to mention difficult to put a tune to.
I guess it's all down to what the writer wants - if they want to write something that's going to have the listener humming it all day and singing along on the radio, then that's going to turn out markedly different to a piece where the writer wants to raise the hairs on the back of the neck of the reader/listener by using beautiful language and images... by nature those two things are very different.

I'm certain that at least a good proportion of the biggest hits of the past 30+ years would be ripped a new one in this forum, simply because we are lyrically based, as opposed to musically based. As the only way we have of influencing the readers is by the worRAB we place on the screen, the only real way of impressing the readers is your lyrical content.

Of course, there are plenty of decent banRAB out there who write excellent lyrics and fit them to music extremely well. I guess it's all down to what your particular flavour is... there's a n00b running around at the moment (Tears Of Tragedy or something) and he's writing in an almost carbon copy of Fall Out Boy's style... that's not going to get him particularly high marks here, but as far as he's concerned, that's the music he enjoys, and that's the music he wants to write... therefore I guess that technically, he's not doing that bad a job, even though I chewed him out for it, as it wasn't something that appealed to me. It's all a big game of opinions, really.

Just dive right in, dude. The simple 'wanna get a drink sometime?' is damn effective. If she says no, don't worry, it clearly isn't meant to be, and you've saved yourself weeks of awkward edging around the subject for the same result. If she says yes, result! :)
