Community Thread / Tips and Questions

Hahaha!! I'm classed as a little strange at school because I'm not a homophobe. I don't really care which way people sway as long as they don't try coming onto me. In fact one of my closest frienRAB is Bi-sexual, he knows where I stand so there's no problem!!
^ Same here...except now I am bisexual. Well, I haven't had a relationship with a guy, so I guess you could say, "I'm keeping my options open".

It helps that we're beginning to get a core group here that can at least crit each other, and grow as a group. I'm going to try and get better about critting more people and give more suggestions.

Well assuming there are enough "experienced" writers constantly on the forums, the standard of quality writing could be self governing. The writers themselves would maintain the majority of quality control, with the moRAB having to do minimal work.

Well there is a large gray area between being a beginner and being very good. I was thinking of using the experienced writer's forum as a place for the top handful of writers, and the intermediate forum as a catch all middle ground, and the beginner forum for the bottom wrung.

You could even seperate the three forums by writing problems:

Experienced Writers - Pieces of work requiring polish and fine tuning. Focus on connotation, mood, theme, and tone.
Intermediate Writers - Idea refinement. Removing extraneous and unnecessary information. Idea Cohesiveness. Proper use of multiple imagery, metaphors and similies to create an overall theme.
Beginner Writers - Heavy grammatical and Structure issues. Capitalization, punctuation. Overuse of Cliche' and unoriginal ideas. Lack of Imagery, Metaphors, and Similes. Mainly content issues.

If the forums get split they should be open to everyone to read and post in. Where a member submits their work would be the only thing that would be limited.

Straight up screaming might be interesting. I think The Mountain Goats do something in that area, though nothing like what I think you're talking about. I'd love to hear what you come up with.

I'm way too stubborn musically... I really need to learn to branch out, but there's just too much crap out there, and I only have so much time.

Anyone like to recommend me a band? I'm into a fair bit of stuff - Thrice, Jimmy Eat World, Funeral For a Friend, Alkaline Trio - I need some new banRAB that aren't so mainstream, people!

I do a lot of things similar to you guys. I watch things around me more carefully or just blatantly fish for ideas. I store everything that I enjoy or seems relevent to me in the my mind, or write it down in a notebook. Occasionally if I don't have either one I jot things in my notepad in my cell phone.

I don't think that will be much of a problem. Most of the regulars are used to the 'crit for crit' idea anyway, and I think they would try to return the favor as a way of saying thank you.

Although, that could be a bunch of idealistic crap. :)

couple more weeks and you'll start to get into the groove of things. after about three months of washing dishes i could just switch off and function on auto pilot. the money should ease things along until then...
