Community Thread / Tips and Questions

Whenever I write dialogue, I write it casually. I also write it as if I'm watching the character's speak to each other. It's very much like two people discusssing while I stand and watch, never interrupting.

Heheh, I doubt I'll have a complete draft for a while. I've formatted it into a book size and all I've got so far is about 15 pages. It's gonna take at least 4 months, possibly more, to finish the book.

I agree with that. IMO it's the same problem with musicians. Diversity of listening/reading is very important in order to create original/interesting work.

No, Phys and Maths are different, may aswell be one though. If I drop that it'll just be Eng, E+P, and Bilogy. I'm not sure what I want to do for Uni, it was supposed to be medicine, but I never really wanted to do that, mostly pressure from peers. I think Law or English Literature or Psychology (if i get the a level) or something. I know I do want to go though.

Ha, that happens quite often. I'm not even playing and I have my guitar in my lap. it's soothing, I guess.

And yeah I saw some rap lyrics... But I baffled one because it was something like

or something like that... Crap, it sucked big monkeys sweaty balls.

Hmm. Interesting project.

I decided to write one tonight based off of your encouragement.

The song has nothing to do with you or anything relating to you... but it conjured up because of you. :)

Expect it soon?

Ha, I don't know a lot of girls who's name's Herbert, though. :p

But yeah, I've seen a lot of better songwriting around. There's loaRAB of bad stuff, sure... But there's a growing... old members comeback. I'm glad. :thumb:

Related to songwriting and lyrics, I watched the movie "Memento" yesterday. Wow, that was a crazy acid trip I had. Anyhow, I would like to know if anyone has read the short story by the director's brother (something...Nolan)... It seems quite interesting.

True, but I don't think it matters past a certain point. I think writing specifically about any event or any emotion allows you a certain freedom to not care about cliches, because it will still seem genuine. Springsteen is probably not the first person to write about an encounter with a hooker in some motel, and in that sense you're right, it probably is cliche, but otherwise I really don't think Reno should be viewed that way. It's beautiful writing.

So ... like originality, I don't think cliche is such a big deal once your writing gets good enough. It's simply a non-issue then because you can write about any topic persuasively.

I love that song, by the way. :)

Just wait untill you graduate bud, Then you get told you're "Over Qualified".

I very nearly vomitted into my own fury when they said that, Arseholes.
