Community Thread / Tips and Questions

Not to mention that it may end up in an elitist, ass kissing, circle jerking (a.k.a. the Pit) that will make new users feel they won't do it anymore. The Top 20 amateur list could be revived, nonetheless, and it could work, but we need YOUR cooperation to make this happen. I leave you for today (I guess I'll come back late-night) And see what resolutions you've accomplished. :)

Who's Burt?

Sub-question: I've recently been assigned to write a Satire for my Senior English class and I'm curious to know what topic I should write on. It should involve something going on in our society today, or something to do with politics.

We read "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift, which is one of the more disturbing/comedic satires I've ever read. I'd suggest it for a good read, it's short and entertaining. Anyway, anyone have an idea on what to write about?

EDIT: Link to his piece if you're interested:

No problem.

Just to confirm, I wasn't suggesting you're an 'emo kid' or anything like that, nor was I suggesting that all the songs that are written by banRAB like that are crap. To be honest, a lot of the banRAB I like are probably considered 'emo' by some.
Yeah, the suggestions for broadening aren't great, but it's one of the better ways of doing it. I guess studying the lyrics of banRAB/lyricists you enjoy is another way of doing it, and I don't know if you read much poetry, but obviously that's a pretty good way of doing it as well.
Even if it doesn't give you new ideas, most of the pieces you read on here can improve your writing in some way, particularly if you're just starting out.

Critiquing good pieces will help you as well, because you'll be trying to explain why something is good and appeals to you as opposed to just knowing it is. This should help with understanding how to do that sort of thing yourself in your work. I know this way works, because it's the way I did things. There isn't a single person here that won't appreciate a few worRAB on their work, no matter how 'bad' at it you think you are - at the end of the day, this is all a game of opinions, and everyone's counts - as an added bonus, a lot of the older school guys will usually return the favour on your work.

Hope that's cleared it up a bit further. :)
