Community Thread / Tips and Questions

To prevent arguments from certain people, just do it as Writer or Lyricist of the Month. Writer of the Month would prevent even more arguments. And I like the sound of that

I made a thread about this on *eek* rabroadmusic community's forum. Let's see if that way the administrators will give US A MOTHERFUCKING MODERATOR FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL. I hope it's pixies, despite he's not around at all and he doesn't even give out constructive criticism for the masses, but hey.

IN THE CITY OF THE BLIND, ONE-EYED PEOPLE ARE KINGS

Better than nothing, I suppose.

So community, 1st ever post in this thread, probably 3rd in the subforum.

I've been lurking around here lately, even read the 'How To Be A Better Writer / Critique Walkthrough (READ BEFORE POSTING)' (before posting as well :D). So yeah, i'll try get involved, learning and responding.

Peace yo.

Get Jane Doe

As for side songs get The Saddest Day, Dead and Color Me Blood Red

Actually just get Petitioning the Empty Sky too -_-

Find another girl that plays violin and you're all set. I saw three girls with that setup at a local gig about a month ago and it was pretty good. With a stringed instrument like a violin you can get a "bigger" sound.

How long have you been writing for? I've only turned my hand to songwriting about a year ago. I've been to practice with my friend the drummer twice and we have four full songs and a half finished one. I'm going to have to work on singing and playing guitar at the same time because i think when the band is finalised we are going to have two singer/guitarists doing dual vocals and a bassist and drummer. I can play some simple keyboarRAB as well if needed and i'm working at improving that as well.

I'd think up a smart comeback to your "being great" comment but it's far too late again. What time is it where you are?

The forum has descended into idiocy, you are correct. To the point there are hardly any regulars left, be it veterans or newer people. MX has enough moderators who don't participate enough. In a forum like S&L, it would be nice to have a respected moderator who critiques songs and offers helpful and informative advice. Unfortunately we don't have that anymore (I'm not sure if we ever did), and the users who used to fill that position have come and gone. Having moderators who lurk, close bad threaRAB and ban stupid users is all well and good, but I'd like to see someone bring a little something extra to the table.

As for the selection of moderators, users do have a say. DBJ respects the opinions of veteran users, and people who know what they are talking about. Granted it isn't the only source of nominations for moRAB or for opinions on the matter, but users' opinions are valued by DBJ, and I'm sure by MX as well, to some minor degree.

Minimum wage for tipped servers in America is $2.83 and is what I've made even after four and a half years of working in the same place. If you make more, your boss is excellent. Also, keep in mind that many states tax you on your tips, or the state will tax you on the amount of tips you're SUPPOSED to make, even if you don't make that much. It's insulting. Also, when you're training, you usually don't make tips unless the trainer is generous enough to offer.

Politicians are trying to raise the minimum wage to $6 something, I heard. By the time that kicks in, I'll probably be done with grad school and shooting myself if I'm still making minimum wage.

Schirf, welcome. Not all of us are morbid or political punk rockers or angst-ridden sap-bags. Of those that aren't, some write decent lyrics. You'll find out as you read, but you'll probably end up sticking with a handful of writers that consistently impress you and work with them because that's what's most worthwhile. The community has cliques.

That's it for now from me. I'll post a song soon enough. Don't ignore it this time, please.
