Why is BBC1 showing this all day and taking off the usual programmes. Who is interested?, the Indians obviously aren't judging by all the empty seats. Why don't they use 3 or 4 which are not used during the day, for those who do want to watch it?
 
Well before you even go down the usual arguments that occur every time sport is scheduled, BBC Three and Four share capacity with CBBC/CBeebies so you'd end up taking one of them off air.
 
Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who ARE interested in the Commonwealth Games. Just because you don't like it, many millions of licence pays do.

Also, BBC1 have been showing the same daytime programmes for ages and some of what they are showing are repeats.

Does it really matter that for 10 days out of 365, a relatively important sporting event is shown instead? Especially when England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all participating and competing against each other in various sports.
 
There may be many people who like the Commonwealth Games /sport but equally there are millions of people who don't. We need balance, not the games being shown on the 2 main BBC channels at the same time. We have also had the World Cup this year, how many hours were given over for that? All these event hours add up. Fairness is required that is all.
 
At the end of the day, you aren't going to please everyone.

No doubt, they'd be people complaining if it wasn't on BBC1. And what about them on terrestrial?

Why do Cookery , Talent(less) , Dancing, Soap, Celebrity , Programmes get in the way of REAL LIFE programmes such as sport ............:D:D:D

OK - some of us, who pay our licence fee, like watching a bit of sport. Personally I love motor-racing and Formula 1 is my favourite thing on BBC1, Top Gear's my fav on BBC2.

Every day, week after week after week, there are Soaps, house buying/decorating, make-over shows, cookery programmes etc etc. I don't like any of them but I don't moan about them being on because a lot of people do like them.

It's just a bit of give and take and when there's a big sporting event I'm happy for it to be covered by our national TV station. These days there are plenty of other channels to choose from.
 
Why can't they make BBC 3 or 4 a dedicated sports channel, commonwealth games and golf today, if you can't get 3/4 you can get a freeview box for
 
Do you have a PVR?

Or if you don't have the facility to record it on a dedicated unit when you're out, do you have a computer with internet access so as to watch the broadcasts via the BBC iPlayer (it may take a few hours before it is available there)?

There can't be many people here who have neither a PVR nor a computer connected to the internets, surely :p
 
I have a PVR. I love my PVR. I just wish I could remember to set it. I can't blame the PVR for my crap memory.
When they bring out a gadget that recorRAB things that it thinks I'll like, then we're in business.....
 
Although I like watching sport, I'm never interested in the Commonwealth Games. Compared to the European, World and Olympic Games it's like watching bottom division football. There doesn't seem much enthusiasm in India either, the badminton seemed to played in an almost empty arena.

I bet the locals can't afford the tickets and the adverse publicity will keep visitors away.
It's been a shambles so far. Today it was revealed that the boxers were having to lose "imaginary weight" as the scales provided were inaccurate, as they hadn't been calibrated. Today's "weigh in" was abandoned.

I'm surprised our teams turned up, though for some, it'll be their only chance of winning "anything," so I guess they want to take their chances.
But one of 'em is the chance of terrorist disruption.
I read in the papers today that no one has found the 300 tonnes of explosives that went missing from a convoy of 61 trucks last month.
I wonder how much "government pressure" (who provide the personal funding) was applied to our competitors?
