.::Coming-of-Age/Teen Movies::.

Yesterday I watched Driving Lessons. I liked Ben's character inability to speak when he was really nervous. I also liked that even though he was growing up into his own, he didn't totally block his parents from his life.

My favorite coming-of-age movie is The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. Funny but sad, just like a coming of age movie should be. :) The ending is kind of strange but it doesn't make the movie any worse. And Kieran Culkin & Emile Hirsch? LOVE them.

That's so cool how you can relate so much to DD, especially since you related to Baby specifically. I always like it when there's a character I can relate to like that. That's why Sixteen Candles is so dear to me...I was Sam in H.S., I still am, actually. That gawky, shy, geeky, 'wished I was popular...had the crush on the star of the football team', girl. I didn't get as great an ending as she did though, lol.

I 100% agree with Stand By Me. It's definitely one of my favorite films of all time. I also get teary eyed at the end with River Phoenix's character disappears. It's very bittersweet.

Now and Then is such a good movie. I love the friendships in that movie.

I think that's cool to find something like that in something most wouldn't. I haven't seen that movie, but just in general, I mean.

I watched Sixteen Candles again last night........that's still definitely tops for me.

And I watched Empire Records recently, that's another really good one. That had some serious stuff in it which kinda surprised me, but I thought it worked.

Do you guys have an all-time favorite coming-of-age/teen movie that just spoke to you when you first saw it; one you could relate to in a unique way - something like that?

Dirty Dancing. I LOVE that film-as you can tell. Haha. But I relate to Baby because I am as naive as she was in the begining of the film. Also, she grew up (or came-of-age) over the course of the movie after meeting Johnny.

Aww, that one sounds really good too. Wow, I am gonna have to check out a lot of these, lol.

So, what's everyone's all-time fav. Coming-of-Age and/or Teen Movie?!

For me it's:

Coming-of-Age: Sixteen Candles
Teen Movie: 10 Things I Hate About You

...or at least I think if I had to narrow them down it'd be those, lol. Sixteen Candles is my fav. Coming-of-Age, but as for Teen Movies...don't really have a fave-fave, but I do love 10 Things....

All those 80's John Hughes movies were awesome: The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles ... My sis and I still love 16 candless and still have a honkin crush on that guy, Jake Ryan.
  • The Sandlot - oh man! This movie was so awesome! The perfect summer about making new friends, baseball, and that huge dog. Not to mention Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez. Need I say more?
  • Now and Then - Pretty much very similiar to 'The Sandlot' but I still loved it. Gabby Hoffman and Christina Ricci were so great in this film. I just loved the story of childhood friends coming back together after years apart and discovering that things do change, but a lot do stay the same as well. :)
  • Rebel without a Cause - granted this movie goes way back yonder, but this is like the ultimate classic of being a teenager caught in their own littly angsty world and everyone else surrounding it. And hello? two words: James Dean.
  • Garden State - I dont know if this qualifies as a 'teen movie' but I think it captures the feelings of almost every twentysomethings out there today. That scared/petrified feeling and fear of actuallie having to grow up, be responsible, and decide what to do with your life. But yet at the same time, completely be clueless as to what you want to do with your life. Anyways, I can go on about this movie, but I won't put you guys through that ... the movie is great. :)

Now & Then. Loved that movie.
& I used to love this very unpopular and uncommon movie that probably only me and my sister know of, but it's called Dancing on the moon.
:yay: Yes Harriet the spy totally rocked growing up!

I'm a big fan of Superbad. It's raunchy, and hilarious, but it truly is a great coming of age story in the vein that a movie like American Graffiti was. But way more entertaining.

I just love the basic message of friendship, behind all the beer and getting laid and how in the end, they are going to miss each other. Cause growing up is hard.

Yeah, I took a sentimental message from Superbad. I must be totally high.

Its about kids who sell newspapers in 1899. When the cost rises they go on strike. And lots of Dancing and singing ensues. It was a really cute movie. And hey it had Christian Bale in it.

Me too, I really don't like him with her sister, that's just wrong. And, I can't wait the ending either.

I haven't heard of that one either...what an interesting name though, what's it about?

Hands down, the best coming of age film is Stand By Me! I don't think that any film could have come close to it :)

They really were, and the ending is too sad. I never watch the ending whenever I watch the movie. In fact I actually stop it before Court ends up with her sister

I like 10 Things, but I love CHW as well. And Duckie Dale OWNS PIP!

I can really relate to Sixteen Candles.
