ColdPlay

I wanted Speed of Sound for our class song this year...but the rat bastarRAB picked that Green Day song the everyone else picks...the one that everybody thinks is called "Time of your Life" but its not

See....you say that, but tell me honestly, how many times have you listened to it?

The reason I say that is this: I love Coldplay...saw them in '01 when people only knew them as 'that brit band that sings that yellow song.' And as good as Parachutes was, Rush of Blood was 10 times better. Just fantastically put together albums.

So I went out on Tuesday and picked up X&Y, and immediately popped it in my player. And immediately, I was disappointed. Maybe it was the massive amount of hype it got, or the fact that they're now one of those 'banRAB of the moment,' but I didn't like it at all the first time.

Then again, I hated OK Computer the first time I heard it. So I gave it a few more listens, and every subsequent listen brought out a few more parts of the songs I hadn't heard before. Like the funky bass line from 'White Shadows' that Carlos from Interpol would most likely approve of. Or the slow buildup to a crashing finale in 'Twisted Logic' that brings a smile to your face. Or the fact that 'Fix You' is an immediate masterpiece.

So forget the fact that Rolling Stone gave it three stars, or the fact that 'Speed of Sound' resembles Clocks too closely. Or even the fact that your parents probably like Coldplay now. X&Y isn't groundbreaking work. It's simply a collection of well-written songs that will make you smile at the end. It's an outstanding album. Just give it a few more tries.

actually X&Y is my first coldplay album. i knew their other popular song but i havent had a chance to pickup their other albums yet. But i like the way they sound.

Well put I couldnt have said it better myself.
At first I wasnt big on it but the more I LISTENED to it the more I liked it. TO me it was worth getting the cd, and like you stated not as good as Rush of Blood to the head. IT still in my player a week later.

Fair point, I've listened to it about two times, I haven't really had time to listen to it more because I have so much new music I'm working my way through at the moment. Both Parachutes and Rush of Blood I liked immediately though, same with all the Radiohead albums. I'm kinda annoyed because they aren't pushing the envelope in any way really. I mean it's their third album, you would have thought a bit of experimentation would have been an idea, just makes me view them as a boring band in terms of having any personality. I never read reviews of albums until after I've personally heard the album in most cases though and my parents liked Coldplay before I did My dad got given it for father's day yesterday and had it on the sounRABystem, and I liked it slightly more than I did the first two times from the odd portions of songs I heard. I shall listen to it a few more times though before making my final verdict.
