Cloverfield then

LOL i just made a post i saw it on sky movies for first time!! :D

Lets just say im really pleased with the outcome ive never seen a more annoying cast in my life..and all of them living in NYC!! and not one gun!!!
 
I saw it for the first time the other week. I didn't mind it, yep, the cast are totally annoying and as I said previously that silly CGI'd monster near the end totally spoilt it for me (god, how I hate CGI).
And yes, REC is a much better film than Cloverfield.
 
Rec is another, in my opinion, universally rated horror film which failed to frighten me in any way shape or form unlike say the Pang Brother's "The Eye" . Still, I respect, like Cloverfield, what the filmakers have tried to achieve even though I can't help thinking that Rec relies too much on its ending. It just doesn't speak to me the way it does to others. As far as monster movies go, I caught the end of the Korean film, The Host recently and even though it was right at the end, it was absolutely dripping with atmosphere.
 
'Cloverfield' - a monster movie that makes you think, makes you fill in the blanks. If you don't like it it says more about your imagination than it does the film.
 
No, it says more about the fact the the people who we were meant to root for were some of the most annoying people I've ever seen on the big screen. By the end of the film, I was wishing that the monster would crush them all.
 
I really enjoyed it when it was first released. As a stand-alone film it's not up to that much, but as part of a wider 'Cloverfiled' mythology with all the viral advertising & web-based backstory it was great. Anyone who loves Mr Abrams other love-child and has got deeply into that will know what I mean.

Incidentely JJ mentioned the sequel over the weekend saying they had a great idea which was connected to the original but was not a direct sequel.
 
I actually really enjoyed Cloverfield.

I didn't want to see it as I thought I'd hate it. The only over movie along those lines that I've seen is the blair witch project, and I absolutely detest that movie, so I was going into Cloverfield expecting to hate it. But once I got used to the recording I really enjoyed it. It had a good variety of characters, the monster didn't make me laugh everytime I saw it, and it had some interesting plot moments.
 
I wish they hadn't shown the monster as much at the end. It's good when you see the glimpses of it when they're flying over in the helicopter, but then when you see it in broad daylight it just looks like any other CGI creature and IMO that messes up the whole film! It doesn't look the right size at the end either. For most of the film it's so HUGE but then when it's looking down at him at the end it doesn't seem half as big.

However, people would have gone crazy if they HADN'T shown the monster clearly.
 
Yes, the camera work is annoying, it takes too long to get going and you want every character to die - but, despite that, I still enjoyed it when it first came out, perhaps becasue I had no idea what the "Big Bad" was beforehand. However, I've ever had the desire to watch it again. The sign of a real good film is one that you want to watch again and again, but Cloverfield didn't have that.
 
I also read somewhere that they might show the same attack from different points of view. I dont know if anyone remembers, but when they were on the bridge, the camera looked at another camera filming them. They might now show the other cameras story. that would be very original i think.
 
Thanks! I looked up Quarantine on Moviepooper however, and it's not really my sort of thing. Still, at least it isn't about zombies, though the blurb in Blockbusters made me think it might be :D
 
I think that would be cool, because that's the only way if something like this happened, that the authorities would be able to piece together all the information. Besides, we need to know more, such as is it just Manhattan, or is the rest of the world in any trouble :D
 
I know, I thought that was really sad too! If you're not enjoying a film, just switch it off, don't 'force' yourself to watch it just so you can say how rubbish it is!
 
Watched this last night and afterwarRAB read up on it at IMDB.

I'm with the people who thought there was too much of the monster. It was good just to see glimpses of it. Keeps you guessing to what it is and the people don't know what they are running from. I don't think it improved the film by showing the monster in full especially when it eats the guy. Apparently it wasn't going to be that way in the beginning but the director thought the audience deserved a good look at the monster.

Also glad it was 80mins. Possibly a tad too long. I think if you treat it as a short, modern, monster/disaster movie then it's an ok film.
