One problem I had with it was that it never felt like the unedited "found" footage it purported to be. In the early section, for example, you get given the background to the love story with very little wasted screen time. Later when they are climbing down the skyscraper, the camera is turned on exactly just before parasites attack. So the basic premise of the film doesn't work, and then the hand-held camera just gets in the way.
I've not seen [Rec], but I had a similar problem with Blair Witch. BW is worse because it has stupider and more annoying characters. Who wants to watch American teenagers bickering?
