Leave that site open for about 5 minutes and you get to hear the "monster" - obviously designed to scare the crap out of you when you least expected it. Not saying it did, mind. :o

Umm...

The oil rig at the start of the film that explodes causing Manhattan to temporarily black out.

The satellite that falls from the sky at the end of the film when Rob and Beth were on the ferris wheel.

Keep up ;)

Just wondered if you'd all seen the trailer for that film with no name (referenced to as Cloverfield or more recently 1/18/08) that has been running with Transformers in America?

If you've not heard about it it's produced by JJ Abrams and there is a lot of speculation on the net about what it could actually be about! Here's the trailer...

http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808/

...it does look very interesting!

There's also this site...

...with some very vague photos and there's this site...

...which is believed to be linked with the film and the strange puzzle ball unlocks videos. It's well worth checking the Tube of You to see what clues people have found even if some do sound a little far fetched.

My misses & I were talking that very same concept over with a couple that were sitting next to us :D

Really sounRAB like a plan:cool::cool:

I'm looking forward to seeing this film, but not to the aftermath of people thinking the idea behind it is 'genius'. I would have to say, that although I'm glad to see such a film make it to the screen, the idea of making such a fantasical event more effective by putting it within the context of reality,is nothing new (and shouldn't even need to be taught)and aside from the huge scale in which Cloverfield does this on, since it 's a film-making gimmick I doubt it'll be able to add much more to this "Y2k Cin

The disabled seating area at the back of the screening room at cineworld allows for extra seating spaces.

....your own or supplied it really doesnt matter which. the fact that its on offer is kool :D

Well, yes, and how the hell did Rob manage to get a signal on his phone for his mum to call him WHEN NEW YORK WAS BEING TRASHED BY A GIANT MONSTER?

It was hard enough getting a signal when all the networks were rammed on 7/7...

...but none of these things was as implausible as A GIANT MONSTER COMING OUT OF THE SEA AND SMASHING EVERYTHING!!!

If you're gonna accept that one, then... surely the other implausibilites are small potatoes?

I loved it. I really, really did.

Watched film 2008 & even JR said it was one of the best he had seen in a long time & gave it top notch review.

Who on this thread since coming back from the cinema is currently planning to see the movie again by other methoRAB ;)

if you like the sound of "The blair witch New york monster thing project" then this is the film for you :D hmm "Cloverfield" is a better name than my title though  I enjoyed it and am looking forward to watching it on the big screen.

Intriguing. Maybe it's a Lost movie about the smoke monster! ;)
Or Ghostbusters 3 - The revenge of Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Or (gag) Godzilla 2.

I like the rumours that it could be a Lovecraft story set in the present day. Shades of The Mist and the camcorder angle has parallells with Romero's idea for Diary of the Dead and (cough, spit) Blair Witch of course.

With the trailer appearing in front of Transformers I assume the end product won't be too adult orientated, however. Shame.

Lol, I know. The camera outlived the humans!

I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it but...thought the monster looked a bit dodgy! Wasn't exactly blown away by the CGI.

I absolutely loved this film - best I've seen in a while. Yes, it was cheesy with the whole "Must save the woman I love" storyline, I mean, they could have dispensed with that by just having them be unable to leave the city or something (no bridges, no helicopters... I don't know, something!) but other than that it was really really good. Not scary, unfortunately, but a really good watch nonetheless. I especially liked how the sound was so loud in the cinema that when there was an explosion or a tremor in NY in the film, you actually felt the floor and seat shaking! It really added to the effect and made me feel like I was there with them.
The one nit I must pick with this film is the night-vision scene in the tunnels. We could see what was going on due to the night-vision, but how did everyone else (i.e. Rob, Lily and Marlene) know what was going on? Because up until then they hadn't been able to see very far with the camera torch. It was only when night-vision was turned on that we (and Hud) got to see what was happening... that's the only problem I had with it though!
Some people on here are saying that Rob and Beth were a "past couple". I didn't get that impression. From what I could tell during the party scene, Rob and Beth had been best frienRAB for years and slept with each other one time like a month before the attack. Isn't that right?
Also, could someone please explain to me what exactly happened to Marlene after the blue radiation suited guys took her away (post Maya from Heroes-style eye-bleeding)? I didn't really see what happened due to the shaky camera (which I'm not complaining about by the way because I thought it was brilliant and completely added to the effect)?

Spoliers just in case anyone does not realise

still making up my mind_I was awed by the monster at times and the way they dealt with that though I can also see what some of you mean with some of their references to certain chewing past times: the big gripe for me was all the characters and the banal actors playing them: they all failed to convince me as remotely kinda terrified much of the time with the exeption of few scenes: it was liked they had all walked in from a Martini advert: depth and weight did not seem to be a strong point for any of them!
