Cloverfield/1-18-08

Ive just watched it for the first time on dvd.

Was pretty damn cool. Very exciting. Good CGI (at least on the small screen).

We live in an age where everything has to be filmed. Do you remember all the amateur footage from the London bombings?

Nice review. Yes, I know it's fiction but it's hard to care about characters who live in luxury apartments overlooking Central Park and blag high powered, high paid jobs in far away countries while in their mid-20s. Bitter? Moi? ;)
Maybe this was intentional?

Has anyone got any theories on what this film is about yet? I cant seem to find anything on the net apart from everyone saying its a lizard type monster.

As much as it makes you want to just see the film, its pretty damn annoying not knowing what its about apart from people running from something.

There is that. I guess, when it comes to promoting films, it's easier to stagger release dates due to premieres, appearances, interviews etc. Two weeks isn't at all bad, IMO.

I think it was more like the harvesting process woke the creature up. On the video on you tube you see them firing down into the sea with what looks like missiles. Maybe they knew something was down there or why else would they have weapons on the rig?

Saw it tonight, thought it was superb, alot better than I was expecting. Its seems reading all the comments on here, you either love it or hate it. I just wish i'd of followed the marketing campaign leading up to the release.

In a way it was both, yes you got to see the relationship develop and their trip to Coney Island but also...
The last clip when they were in Coney Island you saw something falling from the sky behind them. This could indicate that the monster is extraterrestrial or it could be a meteor which somehow awakened the creature that was from the oceans depths???
It certainly warrants another viewing of the movie though!!! ;)

You are being most generous. I would say it was diabolical at best!!

The film was Messy, Loud and Headache inducing. I did not really have a clue what was going on. Apparently it is revealed at the end the male lead (? Is that what you call him), had some freinRAB and family killed. News to me.
Also the plot to save the girlfreind was ridicoulous at best.
The monster reveal at the end was hilarious, was half expecting it to down a pack of chewits.

So essentially it does not matter how good / bad a film is. A clever marketing campaign and a years build up is obviously enough to get cinemas filled.

Bloody hell that really is bad quality :-P

Says Cloverfield at the end though...as though thats the title, but its already been stated that it isn't...

dont see this.went to it last night and it was crap...pure crap,no storyline, stupid characterics and a very funny looking monster.....dont go save ur money..trust me!!!

There is indeed but since 9/11 the whole of the inside of the statue has been closed. However I was "lucky" enough to go up there a couple of years before then.

I have to say that it was really disappointing. It took forever to get up there because the staircase was so narrow; if I remember rightly there was an up staircase and a down staircase. Once inside the "head" you shuffled along a one-way bridge past the windows in the crown, to the "down" staircase. It was so tiny that you couldn't really pass anyone. The windows were tiny too. I think there was a small open section at the top of the window that I was able to stick my hand and camera out of and get a pretty crummy picture looking downwarRAB and another one looking across to Manhattan. Anyway telling fellow tourists that went to New York after me not to bother, it was one of the worst things I did in New York, due to the hours spent waiting or climbing only to get 20 seconRAB in the tiny room in the head.

edit: found a picture of the inside of the head here: http://www.nyctourist.com/liberty4.htm. That must have been taken pre-9/11.
