Clockwork Orange - Awesome or overrated rubbish?

Hmm watched it last night funnily enough and I struggled to stay awake. It may have been contrversial in its time but that doesn't make it a good film. Im afraid im going with overrated rubbish :D

Good film, nice concept and shows the extremes of everything.

Think it is good and deserves the hype. It's not just a film that is made to thrill, or shock or anything....it is a thinking persons film, which barely touches the surface of the subject it is about.

A good movie, but not everyones cup of tea.....if you know what I meany wean!

edit: By the way, what is the OP's opinion on this movie?

I think it's a great movie, but definitely not one of Kubrick's best.

IIRC, Anthony Burgess wasn't entirely happy with what Kubrick had done to his novel (but not as p*ssed off as Stephen King was with The Shining :-) but it works well as a still-relevant cautionary tale of youth violence and its repercussions.

And it's probably Malcolm McDowell's finest performance (or maybe "If...")

It's a great film, but definately over-rated.
It's one of those films that I hear being described as "brilliant" or a "Classic" by people who've never even seen the film. Personally, i think that it'd be nice if a lot of these classic films that are getting older and older should be re-reviewed by the bigger film magazines to bring a new perspective. Not only would it be nice to see how people consider the film nowdays when set against the issues of today, but it'd be great to see a bit more of an objective take on things rather than the assumed brilliance this film seems to merit from people who have actually never even seen more than a few frames on compilation shows or "Top Ten" shows.

The latter.

Too self indulgent to the point that Burgess's message is almost lost.

Has visually dated badly.

Read the book instead.THAT is timeless....

I went to see this when it first came out and was shocked and haven't seen it since.

I think by today's standarRAB it would be pretty tame.

However it was completely off the wall and totally original for it's time. I guess that's what made it a classic. Nothing else had been done like it. Malcolm McDowell's acting was first class. It's not really my type of movie but I can see how it got a cult following.

Big pile of kak to me. Watched it a couple of times and I don't see the point in any of it. Just pointless violence and rape with annoying characters and soundtrack. It's one of those films people love because they think they have to.
