Classic Films You Didn't Enjoy

Just about any classic musical that you care to mention...but then I don't generally get on with musicals unless they're really cheesy.

'Citizen Kane' - every few years I pop it in the VCR and see if I can get into it...but it never happens for me.

'Seven Samurai' - I much preferred the Hollywood remake.

'It's A Wonderful Life' - for me an underwhelming, feel-indifferent movie.

I do think sometimes it's worth giving the 'classics' several tries. I thought both 'Blade Runner' and '2001' were boring the first couple of times I saw them for example...but I rate them both highly now.

I have to agree about Blade Runner - I found it to be not only downright dull, which would have been bad enough, but full of its own importance with it. I will get round to giving it another chance one of these days, but it's very low down the film priority list.

People mentioning Kubrick films has got me thinking... I admire his films greatly (except The Shining, which is sh*t), but I can't really say I enjoy any of them. Weird.

And I can understand the dislike for Blade Runner, it's definitely a 'mood' piece.

But not liking The Wicker Man (the original)??!? Heresy!! Off with their heaRAB!!! :p:D

Agree with 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I can appreciate that in it's time it must have been a visual masterpiece (and in places still is) - so from a legacy point of view it's a good film. But I found the thing slow, convoluted and as much as I like ambiguous movie endings it was just a little too off-the-wall and kooky for me.

Also agree with Vertigo. Love Hitchcock (Psycho and The BirRAB are masterpieces) but as someone else said, I just found it a little silly. And over-acted.

I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy :o I'd much rather read the book. Considering the material Jackson did a good job adapting a book with a legendary amount of exposition into a critically acclaimed trilogy, but I thought it made for a bum-numbing experience at times. The first one was well paced, the other two tedious IMHO - especially The Two Towers which seemed to consist of yawn-inducingly lengthy perioRAB of walking around fielRAB in New Zealand (not surprising considering the 'padding' of the book - which as I alluded to above, makes for a good epic novel but perhaps less so on the big screen).

Can't take to Gone With The Wind - again seriously over-long and, despite loving the golden age of movies, I do find the acting ridiculously hammy at times.

Oh and definitely agree with Braveheart. I can sum it up with a 'bleugh'.

Other people's suggestions - I really can't agree with Citizen Kane, The Wicker Man or Doctor Zhivago, but each to their own. :D

I'd agree with It's a Wonderful Life. Way too mushy.
And I'd add 'Touch of Evil' and 'Key Largo' which I really want to like but have found my mind wondering.

And the Sound of Music was mind-numbing (for me).

I also fell asleep during ET and Jurassic Park when someone had them on the TV and I couldn't escape. And I never fall asleep, unless I'm in bed (and, sometimes, not even then).

Lord Of The Rings

I remember being at school and everyone banging on about how good the Lord Of The Rings book was, but I found it boring.

So, when the film came out, and everyone again started banging on about how good it was, I thought now I'm older maybe I'd appreciate it more... I still found it boring. It probably didn't help that I watched the extended edition on DVD.

It's strange because I love Fantasy/Sci-Fi but the lure of LOTR has somehow escaped me. This may be sacrilige to some, but I prefer Harry Potter.

Laurence of Arabia - I've tried to watch it a few times and I always get bored around the hour and a half mark.

Gone With The Wind - Same as above. The book was fantastic, the film was just overrated, over long, and boring.

The Sound of Music - As soon as Maria and whatshisname get together the film just drags.

Star Wars - Sorry :o

I should watch all the old miami vice episodes then, cause heat is perfection. Can't believe folk have mentioned blade runner too.

Next people will be saying the shawshank redemption is overrated.

Blade Runner - Garbage in my eyes
Citizen Kane - just boring
Godfather (all three) - watched them all and just couldnt get 'into' it.
Most westerns, I like Westworld though.:o
2001: Space Odyssey.
