Classic Chart Show Showing On The Vault 356

Since seeing this thread, I've put this on my Sky Planner and have been watching it for a few weeks now.

I must admit that I don't remember these Chart Shows. For me, it's heyday was a few years earlier and I will always remember it for introducing me to The Sugarcubes, The Stone Roses and The Pixies to list a few.

I noticed a decidedly heftier looking Sophie Ellis Bextor today. Clearly, she has starved herself recently which is a real shame.

I think these record companies are now started to realise these chart show vids are helping them. On YouTube, they've got a choice of either getting rid of videos or allowing to stay on. The conditions of videos staying on, is that they can put adverts or their logos next to the videos. Plus they can get statistics on how many people are watching the videos.

In the past, I know many youtube users had their accounts deleted, because of record companies were moaning about their videos being used without royalty or permission. Hopefully I won't be eating my words, if they delete my youtube account !!!

Part of the problem is with business is that they won't be prepared to spend money on promotion unless they feel it's worth it. Obviously, that's actually counter productive (after all, they might not be doing well simply because no-one knows about it- and a lack of propmotion isn't going to change that). And the promotions they did run were shown so infrequently, many people would have missed them (plus they were only shown on The Vault- they could at least have run them on the whole network of channels). I have The Vault on in the background most of the day, and I can say I only saw any of them a handful of times. It seems like most people who have found out about the repeats either did so through word of mouth or hopping across them by chance.

I also don't think the time slots helped, as many people would either be at work, in bed or have children who would most likely have control of the TV (Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons are obviously prime kids TV viewing times). The Sunday midnight repeat really wasn't the best timeslot either- after all, most people will either be in bed or out somewhere at this time (and if they are at home, they're likely too drunk to care what's on the TV). A weekday night slot (9-11PM) would have probably been best. Also, if they'd promoted it in the same way as they do with the competitions (promotions 3-4 times an hour, writing on-screen accross all 3 channels) that might have given them decent enough exposure.

It's very unfortunate though, the repeats were one of the only things I genuinly look forward to watching, and it really is a shame if they have been permanantly taken off.

It was certinally the case for quite a while after they introduced them, though it improved towards the end. I guess all they had was a small room with a blue screen, a camera and a microphone, so there's probabally plenty of reasons why it doesn't sound too good. The one today, you could still see a ring of blue round Caroline Quentin and Leslie Ash where they hadn't keyed out the blue screen properly. No problems with Belinda Carlisle though.

Yes, I remeber the chart show. I used to watch it from 1989 - 1998 and it was the best programme ever. The Top Ten chart always differed from the proper chart. I would love to see this programme again but I don't have sky. Also the chart show videos you have uploaded on YouTube are great keep up the good work James2001.

It may well be footage that was shot for The Chart Show, as they had interviews over the last couple of years and likely more was shot than they actually showed.

I know Video Visuals were responsible for Star Test, and I think they had something to do with Network 7 as well and, I believe, Tricky, which was on ITV Saturday Mornings in late 1997. Not sure about anything else.

great show yesterday though there were a few songs that was awful

shame we cant get some from summer 1995 when britpop was on full steam

thanks again the vault for showing them :)

I don't think they've re-edited it, at this point in time I think they might have still been in part 2, this was only a few weeks after they swapped the specialist chart and chart news around, so the producers at the time might still have been fiddling with the show's running order. Anyone got any original recordings of these last few episodes from 1997 to check?

I think the thoughtlessness of the production of the revival is starting to become a bit ridiculous, with No. 3 on the Airplay Chart being "Lid Rock".

I'm starting to worry, however, that The Vault aren't bothering to bring the repeats back. It's been a while since VickiVault said they plan to show them again.

When I saw this thread resurrected, I tried not to get my hopes up that they were going to start showing it again. Great news!
