Classic Chart Show Showing On The Vault 356

Let's hope its a new repeat that wasn't shown last year. Maybe all the clips on YouTube finally showed the Vault how popular the show really was.

One thing I also found intriguing about this week's show was the bit at the end where they told people to buy Amiga magazine for a competition to redesign the shows icons. The show's graphics relaunched the following month, I wonder if they were considering changing the icons as part of it. Of course, they didn't actually change them- they were still using them until April 1996.

Found parts of an original broadcast from 1996 the other day in which John Alford won the battle of the bands with Blue Moon. This episode was shown on The Vault last year but they had Sean Maguire as the winner with Good Day so it looked like The Vault showed a different version. I also thought that Middlesborough beat Chelsea on the ITV version aswell as I seem to remember seeing the Let's Dance video somewhere but on The Vault Chelsea won.

It was SMTV that was hugely popular and was the ratings draw, not CD:UK. CD:UK was painfully bad over its final 18 months (and had been on the decline since Ant & Dec left). The Chart Show was as popular as it had ever been when it was axed- more than can be said for CD:UK. I doubt it would have been anything more than moderatly popular if it was on its own, without SM:TV. And, anyway, SM:TV wasn't a runaway success, it was on the verge of being axed for most of the first year.

The thing about the announcer talking over the last episode- I presume that was only in his region, both copies of the last episode I have (all but the last 5 minutes of the one I taped accidently got wiped, someone else sent me a copy)- one from Yorkshire, one from Central- have no announcer over the end.

Thanks for telling us about that as I thought the New Chart Show had finished. It isn't that strange finishing on a new release as the old chart show finished on something new which would be on the next show and not the No1. Maybe the shorter show will work better as it means the specialist charts will not come round so often.

Received an email this morning from Matt at ChartshowTV.

He told me that he had handed over control of The Vault to other members of the CSC team but on the question of whether different years will be shown, he imagines there will be as before, but can

hi razdan1974, how do I find out if the BFI have particular TV shows in their archive? I tried their website but I couldn't find a database. Thanks in advance.

Considering the repeats have had virtually no advertising, it is a surprise they have lasted so long.

Does anyone know the target share for the channel, and the share the programme gets in the respective 3 timeslots per week?

Oh well if it all finishes, at least I will have my several years worth of old VHS editions to wallow in!

I watched the Vault this morning and although i'm not surprised the Chart Show wasn't on, i'm still very disappointed. The Chart Show has so much more to offer and we have only got to see the tip of the iceberg.

I agree with James that the repeats should be moved at least to a 'graveyard slot'. There is obviously a small but commited audience who wants to continue seeing the repeats.

In my opinion, the Vault should have taken a gamble and converted the 86-90 & 93-95 tapes at the start of the re-run. Indeed i suspect this may have been originally planned by the Vault as shown by the errors - Question: Which year did this episode first air. Answer: 1987, 1989, 1990.

With all the episodes playable there could have been a strong promotional campaign including perhaps a weekend of back-to-back episodes like UKTV Gold sometimes have with EastEnders or Only Fools and Horses.

Yes, when The Vault showed the later 1990s episodes some had the telephone numbers blurred but others had had them removed altogether during The Battle of the Bands and the updates.
