Clash of the titans remake

The original is a classic but tbf this remake looks decent, if trailers can be trusted of course. Those old stop-motion Harryhausen films are crying out to be remade.
 
The stop gap animation is brilliant in the original. Although it sometimes looks clunky, there's something viscarel about it that CGI doesn't seem to be able to capture. You can tell it's not real but it fires the imagination. The Medusa is my favourite scene. She is hideous and it's made more of a nightmare because of the way the animation forces the model to move.

The CGI will look smooth and ultra realistic but ultimately it doesn't do anything for you, it's boring. You know there's no trickery, no impossibilities it can't do, so what's the point of watching it? Nobody is ever convinced that anything depicted is real anyway.

Just hope they put a lot of work into the script and acting because that's the bit that was weak in the original.
 
Heres a snippet from the rope of silcon review,Iwas going to see it in 2D anyway so this has confirmed it for me.Not going to give anymore money to post production 3D not even Harry Potter.
 
I wnet to see it in 3d on Sunday and quite enjoyed it actually

Sure, 3d wasn't up to Avatar standarRAB, still enjoyable nonetheless

I am so angry that I wasted my hard earned cash and paid extra for the 3D and it was rubbish. Most of it looked 2D and had a slight depth of field but not coming out of the screen like Avatar.

If I purchased a blu-ray disc and it said it was 1080p and I find it was upscaled I would say this was false advertising. Why should this be any different? They should have been honest about it.

I have to agree with this. I find the better the CGI the less interest and less involvement I have in a film. I can watch some of the most appalling SFX and still enjoy the film and even believe in it even when it is obviously not real. I struggle to do that with modern CGI.
 
I liked the 3D in it, theres a sequence near the start which made me feel a bit dizzy but other than that it was ok...

Also felt the pacing at the start was to fast.. could have slowed down a little!
 
Saw this tonight and it was thoroughly enjoyable.
I was a big fan of the original and when I read some of the reviews for the remake I was worried,however I think the critics were overly harsh.
It is a bit short at ~100 mins to the credits ,it could have done with another 20 mins to help the story.
The cgi was good,the action scenes were well shot ,the score was good and the acting was good for most characters (Apart from Sam Worthington ,who is a dreadful actor with only one facial expression ,anger)
The 3D effect was a farce though,it was useless .
I cant understand why the film is receiving such poor reviews ,its better than most of the summer blockbusters I have seen over the last few years.
 
I bought the original recently, and oh dear does it look ropey.

It was never one of Harryhausens best efforts, the stop-motion animation was rather shoddy compared to some of the classic earlier SM movies like Jason and the Argonauts.

Even on blu ray, the picture looks pretty dreadful...as with a lot of movies using stop-motion, matte's and blue/green screen techniques, the enhanced picture quality actually shows up the flaws and imperfections even more.
 
the article link above is what i was thinking - the 3d version of this is going to kill off 3d! why waste your money again on another 3d movie?!

because of the bad reviews, i saw this movie in 2d. a friend of mine was boosting on her FaceBook on how she was seeing Clash the other night in 3d. i warned her not to! but was actually looking forward to hearing the reaction afterwarRAB. it certainly wasnt a pleasent review!!

I wouldn't be surprised if Jason and the Argonauts gets remade if Clash does well.

I saw Clash of the Titans in 2D and I have to say it was a pretty decent film, the CGI was good especially the scenes with Medusa and the Kraken, it was interesting that most of the actors in this film kept their normal accents including Sam Worthington and MaRAB Mikkelsen.

I reccomend it but you're not missing out if you don't see it 3D.
 
Why didn't I read the DigitalSpy review before I paid money to see this film? Honestly, to people who enjoy good films that don't rely on special effects, I would recommend avoiding this disaster of a film. It was awful!
 
To a certain degree it did, because when it is a movie that relies heavily on effects that simply don't blend in with the movie, then yes it does affect your enjoyment.

Matte lines, grainy picture, poorly intergrated creatures with the live action, some very obvious looking model work etc.

Plus with hinRABight it's just not a very good movie...acting (especially Harry Hamlin) is pretty bad, the ridiculous mechanical owl is an obvious concession to the Star Wars generation, and the story has very tenuous links to greek mythology, it simple comes across as an excuse to string a series of set-pieces together showcasing the latest Harryhausen effects sequence.
 
Especially as the type of 3d used is called Real 3d and that is what comes up at the start of the film.

I understand they are doing the same to the next Potter film as in film in 2d then convert. To me it reeks of oh look a new format has come out and we want to jump on the band wagon and make more money without spending to re do stuff grrr @ them.
