Clash of the titans remake

Saw this in Tuesday, thought the film was ok and my 7yo son loved it.

Have to say that the 3D is totally pointless, i've seen loaRAB of 3D films and this is by far and away the worst 3D effect i've seen, other the the opening heavens/universe scene it added nothing to the film and as several others have said, you could watch huge sections without glasses as there was no effect added.

To date i've enjoyed most of the 3D films i've seen, but this whole film in 2D then reformatting into 3D doesn't work. Films should only be released in 3D if the original intent is to film in 3D.

I don't get why so many people on here are claiming the effects 'are great' in this film.

What I've seen of it so far the effects look absolutely awful - the most unconvincing CGI since Anaconda. And I don't quite understand why that is. Why does a film that was made only last year look so dated in regarRAB to special effects?
I shouldn't imagine it's a lack of budget - and even if it was that shouldn't be a problem, the CGI elements in District 9 look a million times more convincing and that was probably made on a fraction of the budget. So maybe it was a rush job, I don't know but for me, there's nothing more annoying than an effects laden film with cheap looking effects.

To be fair that is what Greek mythological stories are really.

However thats how I feel about a lot of modern films. One of the worst for that are The Lord of the Rings films. Lots of walking about going from one set piece battle to the next.

its okay. saw it last night and enjoyed it.
too much cgi in bits though
the Kracken fight just was so heavy on the CGi, that all peril, all excitment was lost. it reminded me of some scenes from The Two Towers/Return of The King - and that was done much better and nearly 10 years ago. because of mainly that scene, you get the impression not a whole of time and effort was spent on this film

didnt see it in 3d and glad i didnt.

Saw it yesterday, in 3d, it was pants.

Firstly, the city being called Argos (though I'm sure it was historically correct) was just stupid, it made everyone laugh. The acting at the start and throughout was patchy, the CGI was average and the 3d was useless it added nothing.

Just a rubbish film, I went with some frienRAB without having seen any previews and was expecting something at least half interesting, but it was just crap.

Clash of The Titans - 1/5

Waste of my time. Story drags, its a CGI fest and the 3D was pants. I didn't care about the characters.
Someone mentioned Hades sounded like Voldermort - true. And Dan Bryan made a very good point - in this film, we know its fantasy but the characters do not. I mean, I know Perseus is the hero but never once did I feel he was in ANY danger and I didnt give a shit about his frienRAB or the other characters.
They were obviously trying for a Rings vibe with the narration (and failing).

Just saw it, it was disappointing. I love the origina;and it is a big film for me, when you get older the effects of the original do detract purely because of what we are used to.

However ropey effects or not the original was always going to be hard to ebat for me and THAT was my issue.

It felt that they chewed it up and spat it out. Too many effects, too far away from the original. I kept trying to distance myself from the original

It wasn't bad but I expected more.

I just got back from watching it. It was dreadful. I know the original was always going to be hard to live up to but they could have done a lot better. The story telling was poor, the characters were poor, the CGI/3D was poor. Some scenes were blurry and too dark. Even if you don't compare it to the original and consider it as a standalone, the film itself was very weak.

Fact is a lot of the younger generation won't accept Harryhausen type sfx... they'd invariably end up giggling at most of it as they don't have the nostalgia factor that us older film fans have. They just see those ropey old effects and in all honesty they do look slightly naff these days. Harryhausen films are period pieces now, and I'm fully behind those old Argonaut & Titan films getting a remake with modern effects. I'll forever love the old Harryhausen films but you can't expect a new generation of movie goers to take them too seriously, they don't get the warm nostalgic glow that us old farts do when we watch them. I just hope that if this is indeed the beginning of those old classics getting the cgi treatment that they are made with care and respect by fans of the originals.

I am not of the younger generation. I still remember a lot of the earlier, classic Harryhausen movies with fondness, and they stand up very well even now, considering the era in which they were made.

But by 1982 the stop-motion technique had largely died out, and the movie looked like something of an anachronism at the time. Especially in light of movies like Star Wars, Close Encounters etc...films that has started to push the boundaries of special effects. Yet here was a movie that was determined to be resolutely old-fashioned in the face of all that.

Some may say that is it's charm...but I feel like it's more of a last gasp for Harryhausen, and it is not the movie by which I would rather remember his talents.

As a kid in the 80's, I have to say I absolutely loved this movie. I knew it word for word, and like The Beastmaster also I watched it over and over again on video till my eyes bled and the tape wore away. Stop motion may have begun to look a little shaky by this point, but this film with it's fantastic setting and amazing music, as well as the tremendous visuals gave me a real thrill, and a buzz for Harryhausen that I never lost.

That said, I do think the remake looks alright, and I will pick it up on DVD for sure. I don't imagine it to be the same for me though compared to the original.

My children loved the film as well, like you they watched it loaRAB of times.
So I'm not sure that the assertion that it's only us oldies who loved it is true.

What added to the original, IMO, was that you knew they were little models. But just as in real life, if little model soldiers started to move around, it would be fascinating to watch.
In other worRAB, what old style animation does, is to fulfill the fantasy for you of inanimate objects coming to life. Even cartoons do the same.

CGI just doesn't have that link with the real world. You don't see anything that you are used to seeing in a "lifeless" state.

oohh i might like this one..I liked the old Sinbad and Doug Mcclure films, so maybe this too..Funny creatures and fighting skeletons were my thing years ago,..lol
