Cinema prices are taking the piss!

Not sure what post you were quoting - but yes it is shocking when you could get a good meal or something else far romantic than a cinema trip for that amount of money..

Odeon are apparently working on just that, according to their managing director who was being interviewed on Five Live on Friday, after the AIW debacle.

I'm afraid I have zero sympathy for people who pay for food in the cinema.

If you're that stupid, you deserve to be ripped off.

You don't have to have food in the cinema - you're going to watch a film, not eat a bloody meal.

[/rant]

Well actually you said "Nowadays (i feel old) unless there is something i really want to see or am being dragged to by family i just wait for dvd/blu ray release, Most new dvRAB can be picked up at around

You say the ticket price is reasonable and yet bring in your own food do you not realise that this is how the cinema makes its money?

I have been in screening where I am the only one there in the huge screen so to show the film to an audience of one for 6.50 would be losing their money but add on the food prices (which for a large Popcorn and Fizzy drink is 6.80 at my local Cineworld) it compensates slightly to the loss they make on the ticket prices.

I don't really like the price of the food myself but I do not like to bring food in from outside sources just because I know that is where most of their revenue is made.

You mentioned Cineworld is there a local one for you? If there is I would recommend the Unlimited Card this is only

It is pretty bad nowadays if you go to ones of the cinema chains (Odeon, Cineworld, Vue). You are looking at least 7 pounRAB plus for an adult(in London more). I don't know if they do a discount for online booking. Odeon do stock alcohol in some of their London cinemas. That is where cinemas make a lot of their money from the food and drink. You could just bring in your bag(your own food and drink) and then take it out once the trailers start(naughty I know, but hey).

Some of the independent cinemas do films at good prices(but you need to be near one to use them).

See here is the problem you haven't considered the context of my sentence and taken my initial statement as fact, my age being irrelevant the concept of 'being dragged' is generally undesirable and your assumptions have lead you to believe that i don't enjoy the excursion, however maybe you assume (due to the age comment) that i am the head of a family? who knows :p

I like to think that anyone who goes to the cinema is someone who maintaining the industry instead of downloading it illegally, however someone supporting a segment of the business that is blatantly poor value for money is not someone who supports the industry, by that logic if i go to a concert I'm not supporting the band unless i buy their merchandise aswell, which i could get cheaper online at home.

That's my business model for a cinema - i've been to the prince charles many times and they are fantastic value for money.

they may not be able to afford all the latest releases as soon as they come out, but you can still watch some great films there.

It was the worRAB dragged that made me assume and for that I am sorry if I assumed wrong.

Your analogy although apt is a poor one. The Ticket prices of a concert is enough to pay for all the bills and costs that the concert people need.

However a cinema ticket is no where near enough money to compensate the cinema. So if people just sold the tickets and that is in the Cinema would be out of business very quickly. So the other things that are sold food, drink, sweets etc. have a high mark up to make the cinema business viable. I do sound like a broken record now :) and I know this but it is fact that without the high priced food there wouldn't be a cinema to go to. Hence why I say those people who buy the food are supporting the Cinema industry (not the movie industry as such but more refined to the cinema itself, the movie industry would do well with or without cinemas they just do better with the cinema :))

i don't like them charging extra for 3d movies (even unlimited customers have to pay a bit), it wasn't so so bad when you had 3 or 4 3d movies a year but with the sucess of avatar 3d movies are going to become the nom
