Cinema prices are taking the piss!

As it has been established to call someone a "mug" or anything like that for just buying food isn't really helpful and isn't very bright either. Cinemas make their profit on the selling of food without selling food then the cinema would not last long. So without the "Mugs" buying food you would have no cinema to complain about.

As you stated you don't really like going to the cinema so this wouldn't really affect you but personally I think the cinema experience beats sitting at home watching it on the TV.

Even if the ticket prices went down to

On the flip side of that argument it can be said that nobody desires sympathy as none is required. My dad, for instance, being very, very far from stupid goes to the cinema once every two to three years and regarRAB the huge tub of popcorn, and the massive coke as an integral part of the cinema experience. Some wisearse comes along and says you are paying a fortune for that snack, you must be stupid and you shouldn't have popcorn its a film not a picnic and they are going to get the proverbial sit on it and spin and deservedly so.

Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time. The fact it costs a lot to see it has zero bearing on its box office. Heavy sarcasm intended. :P

It cost me around 10 pounRAB to see Avatar. Would have cost more had I bought food at the cinema. Seemed quite a lot to pay for a ticket but the 3D was impressive although I did get a mild headache due to eye strain. I think high cinema ticket prices are a fact of life in the same way it costs a lot to put petrol in your car. It's just the way of the world, I guess.

I reckon 3D is here to stay, more and more films are going to be shown in 3D, I don't think it's a passing fad, so people will have to get used to the higher ticket prices!

Ah, I wasn't aware of that as I don't work for Cineworld so my bad, but I can assure you it doesn't happen at Vue. We have a Pizza Hut across the road and a Nando's (that does takeaway) next door, by the end of the films there pizza boxes and nandos wrappers everywhere.

In fairness to Cineworld though, it's hard to blame them. As has been mentioned in this thread already, people buying movie tickets alone is nowhere near enough to sustain a viable business. The movie companys have far too much power when it comes to setting prices and stuff.

I don't mind admitting to feeling quite embarrased when a family of four comes in and gets a ticket, a large popcorn and a large drink each and I have to tell them it's going to cost around the

Just go to your local independent. You'll probably see a better, more interesting movie than your local multiplex (who are no doubt screening yet ANOTHER $150 million dollar film adaptation of an old Marvel superhero character), pay about

At one time going to the cinema used to be a cheap nite out not now .!.i agree we are paying for the stars ridiculous wages !...the only way to change things is to not go and wait for the DVD !.......

Theres a big differance to "making a profit" and ripping people off! I , like a lot of people would rather watch a film on the big screen in the cinema but there has got to be a cut off point as a lot of people cant afford to go to the cinema as often as they like with the current price structures!

i agree! and checking people bags for food is like big brother!...if we all say no and boycott the cinemas that do that they will have to change there rules or close down due to lack of punters!.....dont let them win!

Anyone who's a student should sign up to studentbeans, where you can print off a 2 for 1 voucher at Cineworld (Monday to Thursday only though). If you go to the right cineworld this can work out at less than

So for a once in a while trip like that I don't have an issue because it's a completely different set of circumstances. For that, it *is* a special occasion and I'd probably do exactly the same.

I just have an issue with people who go to the cinema regularly and feel compelled by some mysterious force to have a 3 course meal each time ..

the 3d tickets cost too much imo - it's annoying as well that you can't have a cheaper price if you re-use your glasses from last time - but of course they wouldn't offer that... ;)

It is insane. I find it expensive alone so I'd hate to think what a family of 4 of 5 would pay.

I really don't blame people for downloading films - it serves them right!

So grateful for my Cineworld card.

As far as eating goes, that's down to personal choice so I don't get the sneering on here against people who eat in the cinema....

I have an unlimited card which keeps the cost down and as far as eating and drinking goes I do a bit of each. Sometimes it's a drink and a packet of M n M's, sometimes a drink and sometimes nothing at all.......

I know, it is strange. Some people take big carrier bags full of food, as if they were going on a picnic.

Everyone moans about the cost of the food/drinks in cinemas but most people still feel obliged to buy something. As long as that's the case the prices won't be getting any lower.
