Cinema prices are taking the piss!

Ive never been more grateful for my cineworld card, 2 films a month and more than pays for itself. .I never buy any food at cinema its just ridiculously expensive. (unless its the occasional mint magnum)
 
If people boycotted the food, the Cinema's would go broke in no time at all.

And your cinema wouldn't last 5 minutes.

The cinema chain make barely 5 percent of the ticket price. Not even enough to pay for the equipment, staff, maintenance, utillitees etc.

The profit comes entirely from selling food and drink. For example Vue makes an enourmous 400% profit on popcorn, around 200% on bags of chocolate...

I don't even want to think what they make on nacho's which are essentially a couple of handfuls of crisps stacked strategically to look like more for
 
It won't work. Aside from the fact that the movie distributors have a huge say in what you can, and cannot show (and when and where), they also set a minimum price before they will give you the movie. If you charge
 
Cinemas only survive because of the money they make on concessions (food etc). The revenue they get back from ticket sales is nowhere near enough to cover the bills. Without concession sales, you wouldn't have cinemas.
 
How much of that was tickets? I agree that 3D ticket prices are a bit steep but it's a premium product and you can't (for now anyway) get anything like the same experience by downloading.

On the other hand anyone who pays cinema prices for food and drink neeRAB their head examining. You don't need to eat and drink in the cinema and you can get better refreshments for less at a nearby caf
 
How about this one states similar information but isn't a dreaded blog. The reason I showed you is not for evidence by the way its just you don't seem to grasp the concept that they don't make money from ticket sales or if they do it is very little so I thought I would find someone else to say it for me as I was getting bored.
 
I just wish my local cinemas had a scheme like this, but they are all full price, If you go to some at certain times it is cheaper, but the extra charges for 3D Films is just to high, pushing
 
It must be about margins. My complaint about Vue, which is the dominant chain where I live, is that it sells poor quality refreshments and in ridiculous quantities. You can't buy a cup of coffee or an orange juice or a small bottle of water, any of which would sell for maybe

The real issue here is the power of the Film Distributors. They're the ones forcing the cinemas into a situation where in order to survive they have to rely on concessionary sales.

Copyright is a double-edged sword. It's absolutely right that that those who made it, and those who own it, are able to benefit from it. However it is profoundly wrong that they can then use that power to force, for example, cinema chains into a position where they have to rely on other means - in this case selling crap for extortionate prices - in order to stay in business. Someone mentioned earlier on that digital distribution will cut costs. It will - but it won't help the cinemas. You can bet your life that every last penny of that will be taken by the Film Distributors.
 
I always try to resist buying any food or drink at the cinema though it is difficult when you have kiRAB with you and the food stanRAB are everywhere. Last film I saw was Avatar which cost me more as the kiRAB really wanted popcorn and a drink and I had failed to bring sweets with me and it was a long movie even though the time flies by.
 
Well, it might be where I live but it cost me, my Cousin and his kiRAB (3) 36 quid so I do worry about you guys paying that much when I think 5 of us for 36 is mental.

An enourmous percentage of you ticket price will go to the studios, then another big chunk to the film makers, then another to investors etc.

The movie theater gets 45% of every ticket sold and the studio that created the movie 55%. This means if a movie ticket is $10, the theater that shows the movie receives $4.50 and the studio, lets say Paramount, receives $5.50. For the theater, the $4.50 pays for employees, maintenance, food and drink and other various costs while for the studio, the $5.50 can be further divided into the sub-categories below.

Cinemas make more money on sweets and drinks, its a business at the end of he day and they have to make a profit
 
my local cineworld does take 'outside' food from you if they spot it. once had some sweets taken off me that were in a carrier bag - they give a numbered ticket to get it back after the film

it does annoy me but I save so much money using my cineworld card I couldnt go to another cinema now
 
I have a cineworld card too, would spend a fortune at the cinema otherwise :eek: I believe Odeon do some sort of points based reward card now too.

I hardly ever buy food and drink at the cinema, I can't down one of those big drinks in an hour and a half anyway or I'd have to keep leaving the film to go to the toilet :D
