Hi,
I have had chronic tailbone pain for going on two years. There really doesn't seem to be a pattern of "this makes it worse, this makes it better." At times it is manageable and at times it is disabling. I have tried long term anti-inflamitories. Doesn't help. Vicodan barely takes the edge off. The physical therapist doesn't think she can help because the pain is so random. I am a breast cancer survivor but my breast cancer was not invasive. A petscan ruled out bone cancer but revealed that I do have a tumor (almost 7cm) abutting my left kidney which has been diagnosed as renal cell carcinoma. Surgery forthcoming. I really don't think they are related but who knows. Any experiences with chronic tailbone pain would be appreciated. It just doesn't seem right and I guess I'd like to know what's next.
Thank you,
Linda

Linda,

have you ever done something such as falling that might have damaged your tailbone? Even if it was years ago? my suggestion would be to go to a good back doc and get an MRI and see what is causing the issue. nobody should live in pain, and there has to be a reason. Something in your lower back must be causing issues. Please get it checked out.

No, I have never fallen down. I've had a petscan so I don't know if they will authorize an MRI although I can try. I should mention I've had a dozen colonoscopies in the last 10 years so I pretty sure it's not colon cancer. I agree with you. It has to be something. I'm hoping by posting that someone with a similar experience will provide a clue. I really hope it isn't cancer somewhere else in my body.

I can't give you that assurance, but with pain like this I would doubt it. More than anything else, get into a good back doctor and let him check you out. He will be able to figure out what issues you are having...please keep us posted.
