i'll agree with you that ALL of the smartest people aren't joining the military. I said SOME of them are. I'm not sure if thats what you were trying to say or not.

and no one wants to die, joining the military isn't an automatic death sentence by far.

The only true measure of intelligence, and it isn't even that accurate, is a standardized IQ test.

Good grades and continutations of education are merely the application of the intelligence that a person has, not the presence or lack there of.

while there are some smart people in the military...I don't meet very many of them.

my grandfather and his best friend were very smart people, but they were officers

This

Swing of a baseball bat from one ear to the other with those sort of people. He's generating publicity for his book. For all we know, that entire interview was a lie to generate press. I dont trust him as long as I can look at his odd face (seriously, he creeps me out when I look at him too long).

This is an incredibly retarded thread.

Fact: there are a shit load of absolute dip shits in the military.
Fact: there are a shit load of very intelligent people in the military.
Fact: there are a shit load of dip shits not in the military.
Fact: there are a shit load of very intelligent people not in the military.

Why the fuck is this even a thread?

And there are plenty of intelligent people in the military, plenty who know what they're doing isn't right but they need a paycheck, plenty who've been washed rinse and repeated until they think they're doing right, and plenty who actually think they're doing right. Political ideals are not directly correlated to intellect.

But his statement was to stir up hell yeahs in certain morons.

The main focus of the military isn't the capacity of learning, understanding, or reasoning.

Nor should it be. Soldiers don't necessarily need a capacity for learning, understanding, and reasoning. They don't need to know why...just how. Many of the higher ups know why...but your mid-level or grunts need to know how to do things....not understand why or what's going on.

Intelligent people are often taught to exercise free will, free thought, ways to solve problems no one has mentioned. While I'm not saying the military doesn't have these people. Most people don't do things patriotically. They do things to have family, make money, live a life. Some soldiers do things for patriotism, for country/service. But the majority of intelligent people find the best way to do things rather than the way you've been taught.

They work for big companies as execs, lawyers, scientists. The military has a small share of all those things...but they're not the best of each field at those things. Nor should they be.

Hitchens coined the term "Islamo-Fascism" for crying out loud. He's a huge hawk.
