Christmas Carol which version do you like?

I like both, I always watch Christmas Carol film every year.:) I like the 1999 version better though I like the guy that plays Scrooge he is a good actor and quite funny too.
 
I watched a TV adaption with Ross Kemp, Ray Fearon and Angeline Ball last night - different to say the least :p

Alistair Simm version is my fave but Bill Murray gets an honourable mention :D
 
I'm passionate about Christmas Carol, the book is one of my favourites so I tend to be very picky. In reality only the Sim and Stewart versions are any good and I hate the American attempts to update or modernise (A Carol Christmas with Tori Spelling is just awful and Ebbie is not far behind).

I have the Alistair Sim version in Black & White which is really atmospheric but avoid the colourised version (which was on 5 this year) like the plague. Whoever did the colouring should have shot for crimes against cinematograhy. They managed to completely destroy the film.

The Stewart version is really good and I spent years trying to record a decent copy when it was regularly on Channel 4.

However - I did watch the Ross Kemp version last night having sort of not been too bothered about it. The transferring of the characters to a modern council estate with Scrooge as a load shark and his nephew as a policeman was great imagination.

I thought it was great and recorded the re-run on ITV 3 this morning which I will transfer to DVD at some point. I theought the Ghost Of Christmas Yet To Come was a great "twist".

I've always liked Muppet's Christmas Carol anf the 2000 cartoon version marrated by Simon Callow as well.

As for the rest I usually avoid them (especilly musical versions).
 
Though I also rate the Sim and Stewart versions as among the best, I think the Muppets version is also a very good version.

I think Michael Caine's performance is excellent, one of the most underrated portrayals of the role. And it's surprisingly faithful, save for the musical numbers and requisite silliness.
 
Mickeys Christmas Carol is the one I watch every year although for a more accurate re-telling I enjoy the version made for the Animated Classics series in the 70's that I've copied from tape.

For live action it has to be Alistair Sim
 
Yeah I know - I was really thinking about Scrooge The Musical and that awful version with Kelsey Grammer.

The Muppets are the Muppets and can get away with it because they can (if that makes sense), and it is Micael Caine!!

I love things like the Ghosts of Jacob Marley and his brother Bob.
 
Muppet Christmas Carol, followed by Patrick Stewart.

When I watched the Muppets for about the 20th time the other day, I saw Beaker giving Michael Caine the finger. Never noticed it before, and it gave me a chuckle.

Maybe the greatest piece of casting in film history people.
 
The source material is so strong it's difficult to **** up.

That said the animated version with Simon Callow looked pretty poor from the 5 minutes I could stomach.

Even Simon Cowell would have been better. ;)
 
Oddly enough we watched Barbie's Christmas Carol today and really quite enjoyed it. Proving that even Barbie can't kill what is probably one of the most perfect stories ever written. Clever lad that Dickens.
