im looking to buy a alpine-mrpm500 monoblock amp, which is rated at 500watts rms at 2ohms, and i cant decide on a sub to match it with, 2-10" a 12", but if i get 2-10" subs would they each have to be 250 watts each to equall the 500watts the amp has? what would be the best way to go any feedback is appreaciated

if you are set on 500watts then you just need to make the decision about the subs

do you have the room for two? if so that's the desired setup because you will have more cone surface area= more bass

the 10s don't usually hit as low as 12s but they are a little more precise and sound cleaner

so if you are going with that amp you need two 10s that require about 250watts RMS each
two 2ohm DVC subs will get you a 2ohm final impedance at the amp
two 4ohm SVC subs will get you a 2ohm final impedance at the amp

i recommend to get two good 12 inch speakers for that kind of amp and depend on how much you one to spend on the subs but get name brand speakers like jL mtx pioneer jbl and other good brands make sure you buy double coil subs good luck

I'd personally get a single 12, maybe an alpine type r to match ur alpine amp. Type r's want like 500 or so rms, so it would be a good match and is a dual 4ohm sub, so it would be able to do 2ohms. Personally, i dotn think u have enough power with 500 watts to put 2 subs, unless they were SVC. The type r will give u room to improve amp wise, if u ever want bigger. Oh and make sure u atleast use 4gauge wire, taht way when u decide u want a bigger amp, you wont have to upgrade quite so soon. Hope thsi helps
