Chick flicks... Love 'em or hate 'em?

Hehehe - thanks for being so gracious.

In fact, I had a thread about hating chick flicks that did really well - but I felt it was one sided so I didn't close this one. :)

And I have to add a caveat - if it's a Hindi "chick flick" I might actually enjoy it (which is totally cultural - US/European culture isn't like that so those types of films really do give a terrible message, whereas they're typical of Indian culture (not the plots, but you know what I mean)).

Otherwise, HATE THEM. :D

I think Romantic Comedies have ruined my personal romantic expectations.

For the most part, I enjoy the crappy, predictable story lines. It can be comforting to know how the movie is going to end. Not every movie experience has to be moving and make you think. Romantic Comedies are just a pleasant escape.

I kind of detest romantic comedys, they're usually neither funny nor romantic, the leading actress annoys the hell out of me for the entire thing and if a movie has matthew mcconaughey then its even worse IMO, i have a genuine, irrational hatred for the guy. Unfortunaly though, i am a girl and have to sit through the torture of these movies to bond with my friends.

Don't get me wrong i do like a few movies that would fall under the chick flick umbrella, but those are usually either dramas or stright up comedys, its the mixture of the two that seems to wind me up.

 maybe im just too cynical

Haha. Some "romantic comedies" have the non-logic thing going on, thank goodness most of them are really cute to make up for all of that.

I  chick flicks! Probably because I'm a girl lol My favorites would have to be Sweet Home Alabama , How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days , My Best Friend's Wedding , and 10 Things I Hate About You . :)

i absolutly love chick flicks they are my faves basically thats what i collect i love em what can i think of that ive seen recently?
mean girls, confessions of a teenage drama queen, win a date with tad hamilton, blue crush, legally blonde and just married i love em all i am addicted!
im a girly girl though that loves pink what do you expect?

I guess that's exactly what bothers us (me...whatever). It's not that I hate them, I actually enjoy them. I agree totally with you in the point that the perfect relationship-thing is what is so appealing and that it's escapism.
But for me, I sometimes just get angry watching them because I know that what I see is not real and will not ever happen to me or anyone else...

You develop a certain "yearning" for what you see, at the same time knowing that it's not real and will never be.

Did that all make sense??? ;)

I saw How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) for the 3rd time I think. It was fun and cute but

after most chick flick movies, I wonder about the plot-holes. Like in this one, what is the logic in working in fashion magazine editorial and thinking that you could write serious journalism. And what's the concept about dating a guy and doing irritating stuff to write an article but then actually falling in love with this guy... so wtf is the problem, write the article and start acting normal and date the guy for real!

I hate that I love them. I'm a girl, but when i see a trailer for a chick flick i have no resistance towards it. I'll start gushing and saying silly things. I kind of lose a bit of my dignity. but i love them. A Walk to Remember and Sweet Home Alabama are a couple of my favorites.

Oh man, good topic yet hard to decide all the movies I love that are chick flicks. I love them, what can I say?.

I will just list a few I really enjoy watching.

You Got Mail

Clueless

Pretty In Pink

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights

Never Been Kissed

The Truth about Cats and Dogs

and I totally agree with Cheerios

Pride and Prejudice

:love_story:

Yep I'm one of those chick flick lovers.

I like the classics : Ghost, Dirty Dancing (not gonna watch dirty dancing 2 !!!!), Grease, Pretty Woman,...

I also like how to lose a guy in 10 days (it's a Matthew thing), you've got mail, city of angels,...

I also like Bring It On ,but I think that might be just a teen comedy.

And I'll have to ask michelle if I can borrow her Sweet Home Alabama, Ever After and 10 Things I Hate About You. :look:

I am the biggest girl you will ever meet. I am such a sucker for chick flicks it isn't even funny. I saw "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" in THEATERS. Only a true chick flick addict would ever do that. Although, the clothing was amazing :)

I'm in love with The Notebook ...But I don't know if I really consider it a chick flick. There's so much going on besides the love story, it seems so mean to stereotype it like that :)

So, I'm going to go with Never Been Kissed . I just melt whenever Michael Vartan strides to the middle of that field and plants one on Drew Barrymore. Don't really know how to spell Barrymore. Anyway, That'd be my favorite :)

I like action movies, but my main love is science fiction and fantasy.

I guess two movies that I like that could fit in the "chick flick" category would be Shakespeare in Love and My Best Friend's Wedding. I don't own the movies, but I did enjoy watching them.

I'm one of those girls, when on a date, would pick Spider-man over Pretty Woman.
