The pre-title was nice and short for a change.

I'm not entirely convinced that younger fans would enjoy the film that much, there's a lot of drama as opposed to the last few BonRAB.

It was strange seeing the film after reading the book for me, since it was the first Bond film in my life where that was possible.
 
This is an AMAZING film. Every decision they made was the right one, with Craig being THE Bond and finally modernising the franchise in the correct way. I really can't emphasise enough how much I enjoyed CR.
 
I think that's a perceptive point. :) It's about time Bond was modernised. Love Daniel Craig. :D He's so believable as a secret agent whereas Brosnan for me was annoying.

It could be crap.It could be brilliant....I dont know.

BUT you have done nothing but post the fact that you dont like it. You have an agenda against the film to the point of posting one bad review and ignoring the actual review from the same paper because its a good review of the film.

Fine you dont like it or the Bond series . We get it....

Then dont go and see it and let those of us who are interested discuss it and see it.
 
I agree with this point. Although personally I don't think Bond has ever been that great. Whenever I think of James Bond, I think of Vibrantly Colourful movies, with huge sets,in a rather abstract version of the 1960's/1970's .However to do that today would either make it Austin Powers or Chicago.This most recent Bond movie lacks the flair of the 'early bonRAB' and sits along side other spy franchises instead of setting itself apart.Hopefully with all the books now been made, they'll stop chasing the 'Early BonRAB' and retire the franchise. But with the succes of Casino Royale,I don't see that happening somehow.
 
Sorry, was I not clear? Because all the other books you mention in your post haven't happened (and indeed may never happen) in this particular timeline. It's is a complete restart. As such any knowledge of timelines in the books and films is irrelevant. This is the start point for this story sequence, and bond is in his late 30s.

It does, but Bond is raised to the absolute top level of secret service agent in the CR (00 status) - something which (to my mind) would be completely implausible for a 28 year old. In his late 30s, it makes more logical sense in this more "realistic" direction with the franchise.
 
Brosnan would have done a much better job in Casino Royale. IMHO, Daniel Craig would fit more into a Bond Villain role than the James Bond role.
Craig was excellent in the action scenes, but alas at the Texas Holdem game he looked so much out of place that they had to put a motley crew of players at the table to make him look good.
As in George Lazembys movie, even though it was enjoyable, there are going to be very few options left to keep the viewers interested in the next installment.
What made the story work in Casino Royale was Craig's vulnerable emotional ties to the female characters and his acting skills kind of pulled that off, but this dimension is going to be missing from subsequent BonRAB, and are going to be more dependable on a Bond with a smooth, unruffled exterior.
Daniel Craig cannot do "smooth, unruffled exterior", no matter how hard he tries.

Casino Royale showed that not every film has to make a big deal over killings and violence. The previous few BonRAB seemed to try and think too hard on how the villains die, forgetting that
an off camera gunman
can be just as effective.
 
Daniel Craig is one of my favourite actors anyway, and has been for years, (I met him a few years ago and love him!:D)and I didn't want him to do Bond....but I saw it today, and boy...he was fabulous, the film is great. Well worth the hype, I was biting my nails during some bits even though I knew what would happen.

Brilliant, emotive, edgy and raw.

well worth it.
 
My mistake. I believe the Chris Cornell song is not on the Casino Royale soundtrack though. But don't look it up on Amazon until you see the film as the song titles have names that are spoilers. I remember the soundtrack to Goldfinger has 'The Death Of Goldfinger' on it which gives away a bit too much if you hadn't seen the movie. Anyone remember how Goldfinger dies BTW ?
 
I would have to disagree with you for years I've faithfully gone to see Bond on the big screen until the last couple of Brosnan films - I just got bored with the whole gadgets & pretty boy feel of the films - I could not envisage Brosnan in CR - I thought Craig played it extremely well & we finally got to see Bond as Fleming first wrote him - I look forward to the next instalment with Craig playing the lead again
 
Went to see it last night, the BEST film and Bond film I have seen in a long long time.

The title sequence I thought was modern and slick and about the film, rather than being about the Bond girls.

The action scenes, although I'm not a big fan of action packed movies, were superb, very fast paced and the stunts utterly amazing.

I thought the Vesper character was really good and a change to the usual hump em and leave em attitude from previous Bond films. It was nice to see a softer side to Bond, and as this is supposed to be the beginning of Bond sets the scene nicely for the next Bond films.

Daniel Craig is IMO fantastic. Great convincing acting, utterly fabulous to watch (even my husband thought he was great so it's not just the phwaaar factor I'm talking about)and I think this film has dragged the Bond into the 21st century.

Want to go see it again now!
