What cartoon series would you most like to see made into a big-screen blockbuster?
For me, i'd love to see Sonic the Hedgehog (the videogame contunity, not SatAM or AoSTH or Sonic X) make the jump to the
big-screen. When you think about it, Sonic has all the things nessecary for a 'big summer movie'
First off, the title character has 'attitude' and while on SatAM and in the games, his 'attitude' can be a bit annoying, put the character in the hands of a talented Hollywood writer and you can really have him be a sarcastic wise-ass that will keep audiences laughing.
Next, the franchise has always been about speed. (The main character's name IS Sonic) Big-summer blockbusters always have thrilling 'chase' sequences. I imagine the movie could start with Sonic running around his homeland, completely carefree, with some really beautiful CG work. Later on in the film, however, he can make it to Station Square, (or some fictional city made up for the movie, I dont care) and be outrunning Police, who all think he's an experiment by Robotnik or something. and of course, have scenes where hes dodging robots or chasing after Robotnik.
Let's not forget a great villain. Every movie needs an iconic villain. Spider-Man has Doc Ock. Batman, The Joker. and Sonic has one of the most well-known villains around: Dr Robotnik. An eccentric, goofy fat man who has an entire army of robots, vehicles,
labortories and technology at his disposal. If they can strike a good balance of both weird and evil, they can make one the most interesting villains seen in an animated film.
Lastly, the series has always had robots. Small robots. Giant robots. Evil hedgehog robots. Take a look at how well Transformers, a movie all about robots did. Throw in a bunch of robots, explosions, and you got everything nessecary for a big movie. not to mention, the title character is a well-established household name.
Sure, the games have had their problems in recent years, but Sonic is so well engrained in pop-cuture and has so much potential for a film series that there simply is no reason he hasn't starred in a motion picture.
(and dont mention the OVA. That didn't really count. It was just a two-part TV special that was called a 'movie' for the english dub)
There's probably more cartoons I think have potential for movies, but ill list those later.
