Cartoons You Dislike and Why

HA HA HA YES!!! I saw the thing Hordesman posted and took a look at some of the other vids... I think that probably classifies as one of the worst pieces of crap ever made :p

You know, I'll second that in regards to Frankie. I don't think it's her voice as much as it's some of the things they have her say. So much of the stuff that comes out of her mouth just doesn't sound very natural at all. I like her character, and she has a great design, but she just doesn't come across as well as she should.

Of course, that doesn't stop me from enjoying the show. How someone could consider it one of the worst cartoons in history is beyond me.

Alright since it seems folks like to slam some good shows, and make them look bad, and then there are others who actually do have bad shows, I'm going to show off some of the ones that really were bad..and not because I didn't like them. (Some of them are anime, but then some of them are in fact American made. So it's a mixed bag.)

First up we have from Japan the Americanized Tranzor Z (it's a rename of the original series). But this show was just too corny... if you listen to what the announcer says, "He can not be destroyed! (yet in every episode the robot got slammed around, and almost torn to shreds..(Can we say "False Advertising?" I knew we could

Then there's Voltron. Ah yes, Good ol Loveable Voltron. The way the Americans took this anime and then just hacked it up to bits to show us how bad and cormy it can get.. Not to mention unrealistic. (In fact in the original show, people didn't fall unconcious, they actually died...where as the Americans dismissed deaths like it was unnatural. But still this one was so bad, it was actually good enough to get it's own DVD boxed set.

but then you got a couple more and these come from the American side of the pond. For example.. how about this 80's show called "Bionic 6"? Okay the idea was maybe a little behind the time (or maybe it was right up there), but when you hear the theme song? It makes you want to go.. They created a show about a family full of cyborgs? (And if you have ever looked at the Bionic Six intro, you'll notice one thing.. The entire family (Save for maybe 2 kids, are of different backgrounds, which makes you wonder.. if this family didn't adopt a bunch of orphans and then in a freak twist of fate, they all got cybernetically enhanced.

and if you thought Voltron and Tranzor Z were bad.. how about Mighty Orbots? Yes, another one of these type ("Multiple Robots transform into one humongous robot to save the world from Evil") type of shows? Some of the ideas were of course so corny you have to ask.. did we during the 1980's get an overglut of Robotic and futuristic shows like these?

and then there's my worst of the worst.. and it is spelled out in two words..

Turbo Teen. This 1980's sci-fi animation tells the story about a kid who acceidentally is forced off the road by a freak bolt of lightning, and who crashes both himself and his car into a top secret Government Laboratory (yeah it's secret all right, especially when you can see the sign reading "Top Secret Government Laboratory", and the main character gets hit by a freak beam that changes him into his own car. But this show also had a Ranma 1/2 feel to it, as the Kid would only transform into a car if he got overheated. Once you hit him with Cold water? He reverts back into a human. Think of this show as a Knight Rider for Kids, minus the cybernetic brains..as the car is in reality a real living breathing human who is changed into his own car...

I think whoever cam up with this one wasn't firing on all cylinders..

and finally we have here one that comes from the folks at Rankin Bass, and it's funny that while Thundercats were a hit in the 1980's you would have thought that Rankin Bass would have stopped there. But nope, here's their giant raspberry, known only as Silverhawks, a show about 5 cybernetically altered humans who could fly (well at least 4 of them could.) But what killed this show was in fact not the actors, but rather the fifth memeber of the team who couldn't fly.. called "Cowboy'. Now You know a show that can't have one character fly isn't bad.. but when he's sitting there playing his guitar Like a Country and Western Folk singer? It makes you wonder...what were these guys at Rankin Bass drinking? (Plus the fact that the end E/I entertainment segments with cowboy and the Copper Kid were rather lame..

In short here's a few good examples of bad...moreso than ever as these shows didn't have much of a following (all save for Voltron perhaps), and that the theme songs were some of the corniest ideas.. or that the stories were the most outlandish.

So there you go, some of the worst I can figure.. and yes, I have to agree with Hordesman. Both Rubik the Amazing Cube, and Fonz and the Happy Daays Gang? Lamer than a duck who would crawl along the ground.

But there you go, some really bad ones.

:coyote:

You know, it's kinda weird. Considering that Bush's predecessor had that embarrassing little affair with a bovine-witted intern, lied to the American people about it, then was impeached for it, signed NAFTA, was involved in Whitewater, didn't take Bin Laden seriously enough, etc etc etc...you'd really think he'd be far more ripe for a cartoon parody than Bush. But that's show biz...or rather, that's politics via show biz...anyway, feh. Junk like Li'l Bush is so blatantly biased and so badly executed it defies criticism, in a way. It's its own worst enemy. The most I feel for the series is disdain. Frankly I wouldn't think much of a cartoon series bashing Clinton either. It'd be too damn easy.

And your inference is quite right - every president has gotten his share of vicious, personal political attacks, including Lincoln (actually, he got more than his share), Truman, Reagan, etc. etc. It just goes with the territory. And IMO it reflects far more badly on the critics than it does their target - if the the criticism is too mean-spirited, or in Li'l Bush's case, just plain lame.

That's one reason I love South Park so much. The show's producers are extremely even-handed IMO. And as a result, the show is not only funnier, but much more intelligent, talking poop jokes notwithstanding. :D

Sorry people, I guess I should've called this thread 'cartoons you dislike and why you dislike them'

I started out intendting this to be a 'worst in history' thread by listing Wild Thornberries and Danny Phantom, but I guess I was delving into 'cartoons i currently dislike' once I hit American Dad. I know there are many more animated series out there that are far worse than I mentioned.

If a mod could edit the topic title, it'd be appreciated.

Look, I've seen nearly everything the human race has to offer on everything cartoons and comics has to offer. So I'm a open minded guy, but at times there are certain shows that just let me down and here they are:

The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy: I just don't get why on Earth why people like this inane show?! The stories are confusing, dull, and so cryptic, they make no effort in making the episodes funny, and I just got sick of all the depressing endings in this terrible show.

Futurama: This show I was sorely dissapointed in. It had a lot to offer but ever since they introduced Mom and Zapp Brannigan, I just can't take it.

Anything by Seth McFarland or Adult Swim: Nuff Said!

Foster's: What ruined it for me is the main character Bloo. He became to self-centered, mean and selfish! Not to mention the humor is to speedy.

It was on Toon Disney? Glad, it's not there anymore. Personally, I don't see what people in that show. In fact, how did the movie make some money anyway? The Care Bears in my opinion should've died forever.

Ren and Stimpy ? I always found this cartoon too ?dirty?. The jokes are disgusting and imature, not to mention the horrid artwork.
Timon and Pumbaa ?The main characters were actually funny in the first ?Lion King? movie, but in this series, they are too repetitive and get boring after a while.
Teamo Supremo ? Pretty much just a lame copy of the Powerpuff Girls.
Phineas and Ferb ? Bad voice acting and characters.
Codename: Kids Next Door ? Seriously, why every adult is portrayed as an evil being?

Oh, my favorite nerd topic: complaining. I shall make this easy by listing it by what I hate:

Bad ideas:

Chop Socky Chooks - Not only the story a little...wonky but the last word sounds TOO close to a racial slur.
Teamo Supremo - I think this has been said: a bad Powerpuff Girls clone.
Danny Phantom - The logic in the show escapes me. Also - are ghosts in this show supposed to be from dead people? Because, that never seems to really come up. I mean, there is a "ghost zone" but shouldn't that be "underworld"? I know it's a kid's show but still ghosts = dead people.
Chalkzone - Do kids even play with chalk anymore? The story starts off interesting but eventually it starts being less and less interested.

Questionable content:

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends - Not very much happens in this show and the idea of Imaginary Friends actually being solid...I don't know. It doesn't make much sense, even to a kid. The only time I really watch it is for Cheese's antics and even those get repetitive.
The Grim Adventure of Billy and Mandy - The premiere episodes were fine but after a while the story got repetitive and it relies too much on the gross out element to maintain itself.

Questionable animation:

The Wild Thornberrys: The animation is kind of crowded and the people's heads are misshapen, as if they were all inbreds. Klasky Csupo's animation is well known for its style but sometimes it works and often it doesn't, at least for me.
McMeatys -I have mixed feelings about puppet based animation but this seems kind of...lazy. The characters kind of look a little deformed and not Jim Henson deformed just really ugly. And the story lags.
Kappa Mikey -The characters are very stiff looking and the design on them leaves so much to be desired. The story doesn't even seem to try to be creative and just makes things up as they go along.

Kappa Mikey.

If this show resembles anime, then I'm Vash the Stampede.

I don't know why Nicktoons Network relies on Larry Schwarz and Animation Collective so much. The shows they've made are so poorly animated it's sad.

Maybe they work for cheap?

Also, Nicktoons Network isnt on many cable providers channel lineup, so Nick needs to pinch pennies when it comes to original programming, until Nicktoons becomes a more popular channel.

Still, i've never watched a single episode of Kappa or Speed: Next-Gen and probably never will. The animation looks so bad on the previews that it hurts my eyes.

There are too many around the world, both recent and old, for me to list here. The post would be too big for me to sum up into words for one rant. No one would read it.

Some dude in my class talked to me in his voice for the majority of homeroom. I was ready to kill myself. I don't hate the character...I hate people who imitate him. Anything I dislike...utter randomness that has nothing to do with the plot.

Let me correct you on this. The KND only fights evil adults (or evil teenagers), who become tyrants and they go around trying to make kids' lives miserable. They don't hate every adult on the planet, we've seen all of the parents of Sector V...and the operatvies don't hate them.

Like I said, the KND only combats evil adults who try to make kids' lives miserable.

I'll give you just a couple right now more later.
1. Beavis and Butthead. Just plain dumb.
2.CODENAME KIDS NEXT DOOR. I don't like it the way the kids attack grown ups espically their parents.
OH 1 more for the road.
3. ED,EDD AND EDDY. The characters are really stupid.
