Cartoons that deserve a remake

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard this...

Here's the story behind that: originally, there was going to be a Static/Titans crossover episode of Static Shock. However, the project was scrapped because had it occurred, the episode would've aired before the premiere of Teen Titans on Cartoon Network, so the producer nixed the idea and went with a Static/Justice League crossover ep ("A League of Their Own") instead.

There was only one episode of JLU which depicted Supergirl and the Legion ("Far from Home"), and the idea that they were originally going to go with Supergirl in the front to coincide with that epispde was just a rumor, I believe. It is true that Superman was placed at the forefront of the LoS series partly to coincicde with Superman Returns; it was likely also so there'd be a big recognizable named character for audiences not familiar with the Legion cast to glom onto. Superman served the same function on Legion of Super Heroes that Robin did in Teen Titans and Batman does in The Brave and the Bold: that of a big draw to serve as an anchor to bring in audiences and introduce them to the 'new' lesser-known characters and universe.

Sailor Moon - This is not really a remake. I have suggested for a long time, and suggested this on the anime message board awhile back.

But someone, maybe FUNimation, one of the dub studios under Bandi umbrella, or some company like that, should redub the entire Sailor Moon series, and relicense for DVD release and include ever episode including the "lost" episode The Ocean! The Island! The Vacation! A Break For The Sailor Warriors!

And for the dub to be unedited and uncut, with the original music, and with the Japanese names. I heard, the reason there is no Sailor Moon licence for North America right now, is Toei is basicily holding the show hostage, demanding their live action show be included. Personal I don't see a big deal either way, just take the live action show, if it is a deal breaker.

I agree, but Birdman snd the Galaxy Trio should get remakes as well. A new series would be exellent!(so would Space Ghost and Johnny):)

I'd love to see Thundercats and Gargoyles get remakes/modernizations, but the one franchise that I really want to see remade is The Real Ghostbusters, this show is perfect for a remake and with 25th Anniversary and the new game and movie why not bring Ray, Peter, Egon and Winston back to the land of animation. Beacuse let's face it after all these years we still know who to call.

I've often said Sailormoon would have been a really awesome series if they ditched *ALL* the filler.

It would be nice to see especially since this series has inspired some major characters in other franchise (a certain very popular MMO has a character modeled off someone in Sailormoon).

This is probably going to happen. With the new Ghostbusters movie hitting production in December and JMS (a major writer for Ghosterbusters) now out of contract, and Cookie Jar getting rights to the series, I would be VERY surprised if we dont see a Real Ghostbusters remake by 2012.

How about some of these great Disney characters like Chip & Dale, Goofy and Darkwing Duck who are now seemingly lost to the sands of time and are never used anymore......? Disney has shifted focus from their great characters who are timeless to poppy tween induced sitcoms, these characters should be reintroduced to the world and Disney should have stuck to their roots.

Speaking of remakes, look what just hit the news feed: Voltron.

Apparently a theatrical remake of the series is being produced.

I wonder if Turner / CN / CW still has TV rights to the series.

Thats another I'd expect to see an animation remake of now.

I don't see Disney's cartoon canon and their tweencom lineup as being mutually exclusive; on an ideal Disney Channel, there's room to accommodate both.

That would be fine with me, as long as we have some Disney animation. I miss some of these characters and to have them completely absent on television king of sucks, one of the only Disney related shows with the classic characters on television anymore is a lame CGI preschool show that is about as entertaining as an inch-worm (in my view anyway). There should be at least some attempt to bring back Micky, Donald, Goofy, Chip & Dale and the others for some modern day cartoons shorts, but I guess that isn't going to happen.

I am more or less referring to a weekly show as opposed to a movie or theatrical release, I didn't want to confuse anyone because Disney is more or less known for their theatrical efforts as opposed to their televised shows.

I don't know if it could be done, but I'd actually like Galaxy High to be revived in traditional 2D animation with slightly updated character designs. Same core characters (including Doyle and Aimee as the two students chosen from Earth), just add writers that could write teenagers without them being dated and hokey within three years (i.e. nobody who worked on a show on Disney Channel or by Peter Engel).

Chris Columbus, the series creator and mega-director, has to be a part of the revival as does, of course, TMS Entertainment, the Japanese studio that produced the original and owns it as well.

I too, would want to second a Jem and the Holograms, it was an awsome show, Christy Marx had a lot to do with it being an awesome show, if she is involved, sign me up.

I'd tend to say that doesn't count much because it got really badly screwed up by differing visions. It's often said that its two completely different series in one.

I mean, for example, the introduction of Quest World was interesting, but before long, Quest world became a series within a series.

Jonny Quest is the ultimate example of trying to salvage a series that a lot of money and time was spent on merely to recover costs of production. It had its moments, but it deserves a proper remake.

Yeah, I knew about that. I suppose I should have mentioned it.

I didn't know it was just a rumor. I know it was only one episode, but still it would have been a good idea to create a new series that way.

On a ideal one yes, but I don't see disney airing a Goofy cartoon in any while. I wish though:(:(:(:(.
There is still a chance, but it would have to appeal to teens and tweens in order to work.

Agreed, Yogi didn't deserve to go out on that dreck. And if his movie does well, you can bet Warner's will give him the 'Scooby-Doo' treatment.

You guys might not notice this animated series before, but I want a remake of one of my favorite shows I used to watch (and still loving it): All Dogs Go to Heaven: TV Series! :anime:

I love dogs, or should I say, a lot of dogs! :D

I wish the TV series can have its own remake, even though there are a couple of actors who had dies in the past time (Dom DeLuise, CNR)

Jonny Quest- A GOOD remake. No, I don't care about the Venture Bros. or The Secret Saturdays existing. I think they stand well on their own without being hindered by a new JQ franchise and vice versa.

I have never seen a show with so much potential, that inspired so many people, get screwed over so many times. A 2D animated show with somebody like Brad Bird directing it could work. Maybe to separate it from most of the cartoons on now, keep it 60's era and show in it's original primetime slot.

Space Ghost-I thought this potential for a serious remake as well. Minus JQ, it's like nobody takes HB action heroes seriously.

I'm not sure about Jem. Most of the appeal for me was the 80's glamour/campyness of it. Modernize it and well...eh.
