Cartoon Series They Should Have Made (but didn't)

yeah they showed a episode in the flintstones where fred met wilma but they still made flintstone kids ( and a live action prequel viva rock Vegas)

Animorphs. It was a terrible idea to take a highly imaginative series and try to make it a live-action show, especially on Scholastic's budget.

I think an animated 3 Ninjas series would have worked. Given how popular TMNT was around the time the original movie and sequels came out, I'm kind of shocked a series was never produced.

As for a babyfication of he Jetsons. No... just... no.

With the Flinstones, you at least had the characters there. You had Fred, Wilma, Barney, Betty, Mr. Slate, and so on. You didn't need Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.

With the Jetsons, all you'd have are George, Jane, Spacely and Cogswell and a bunch of original characters, who no doubtedly would outshine the leads considering George & company were pretty bland to begin with. Judy and Spacely were the funnest characters to watch.

The only reason the Jetson's 80's revival worked in the first place was because they started focusing more on the sci-fi angle of futuristic stories instead of the family oriented plots that the got the show canceled after the first season. I've been watching the 80's version on the On Demand Channel and found those eps far more interesting for just that reason.

If you want to do a new Jetson's series with a twist, focus it on Judy and Elroy ala The Pebbles & Bamm Bamm show, where their parents and Spacely still play a fairly decent role in things.

"I'm not hatin', mind you, but why do so many people believe that cartoon characters are so much more interesting when they're turned into teenagers? Do we really need more teen-centered cartoons? (While I'm blown away that someone else remembers Stickin' Around, those characters would lose all of their appeal if they were turned into teenagers; the whole deal with SA was to show the whimsical imaginations of children.) Can't speak dor the folks behind Daria, but Disney would never do a Kim Possible in College spinoff, since they generally have an aversion to college as a setting. And Pepper Ann already did a series finale showing P.A. and the gang as adults, so a high-school series would technically be a flashback, not a spinoff." __________________ Yes i was aware of the Pepper ann finale, although i didn't think of it as much of an obstacle. But yes i willr efer to such an idea as a flashback from henceforth. Yes i'd agree wholeheartedly with the Stickin' Around idea and i wasn't really thinking hard about that one, perhaps i was thinking more along the lines of 'i'll remember some good cartoons and shows' than 'what would work well as a spin off' although i did think a little about that point. Hmm yes i often bring up the college point when discussing the Fight For Five movement, as being a major barrier to progress. Hmm well to your first point i'm the sort of person who would prefer a continuation of a show to a spin-off in most cases, but if a spin off is to be made i would usually prefer using the characters and just changing the age rather than using some random supporting character to base it on or having a 'next generation' series, as the characters are a lot of what makes a series appealing to me. ------------------------------- There was a special animated Dr.Who done by Cosgrove-Hall who featured David Tennant in animated form as well another special featuring an alternate doctor and 2 lost episodes of the Patrick Throughton era called "The invasion" redone in animated version I'm surprised they didn't do a Get Smart animated version, I think it would had worked well. As for Sherlock Holmes, Miyazaki did an animated adaptation called Sherlock Hound. EDIT: Maybe the reason they didn't get a animated version of Get Smart. There was 2 cartoons at the same era who spoofed James Bond the same way then Get Smart did, Cool McCool and Terrytoon's James Hound. ----------------------------- Yes i was aware of the animated doctor who but i was suggesting more of a alternate doctor, although i like the idea the BBC have of (within their financial limits) animating certain old episodes, especially missing ones. Hmm yes. The get Smart! idea was one i've had for a while and was the one i thought would work best but as i've not seen Cool McCool or James Hound i can't say much of them.

Disney was really in love with making animated series that picked up where many of their films left off: Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, but I always wanted to see an Incredibles series set during the time before all the Supers were systematically eliminated by Syndrome and Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl were married. They could have called it Incredibles: Glory Days or Incredibles: Golden Age. It could have featured all of those great-looking characters like Gamma Jack, Gazerbeam, Stratogale, and Macroburst. It could have been really film-noir-ish, set in the Hollywood heyday, since that was the period that preceded the movie's kinda 50's-era look and feel.

I think the only reason I really wanted a cartoon of that is because The Incredibles DVD has a great special feature that contains audio files for many of the Supers that died, many of which were very clever. They clearly had the characters' personalities thought out despite the fact that the movie made little effort to incorporate them beyond what was crucial to the plot.

Sure, there'd be no Dash or Violet or Jack-Jack, but I would have loved to see that anyway.

I've always wanted to see a series where Disney characters from different series/movies interact (it's be interesing to see all the "princess" characters or all the villains together, for example)...Too bad that "Villains" idea didn't get off the ground (that sounds like an awesome series)...
They did have House of Mouse, but that was more of a showcase for new cartoons featuring Mickey and the other "classic" Disney cartoon characters than it was a crossover...
also the Kingdom Hearts video games (the first of which has some of the Disney villains kidnapping some of the Disney princesses),though mainly it's just Sora,Donald and Goofy meeting various other Disney characters...
I'd love to see Kingdom Hearts get an animated series...I think it would be an entertaining enough story for a series, plus it'd be a good way to get more people interested in the games...

That would have been fun. So would shows based on Impulse and Young Justice. Impulse being more comedy-oriented, Superboy more action-oriented and Young Justice somewhere in between.

I think Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon cartoons would both be pretty cool. They could even do a "Crash and Spyro" type of anthology show because they're from the same company. 15 minutes of Crash and 15 minutes of Spyro, or one could take the whole half-hour when they had a particularly big story to tell.

I also agree on Animorphs. They could have at least used more animals that way (like Carlos's gorilla form). I am also surprised that they never did a cartoon about Steve Urkel on ABC back during the height of his popularity. Heck, the character had dolls and his own breakfast cereal (I'm not saying they should have given the character a cartoon, just that I'm surprised they didn't).

It would be awesome if they made a Mario anime. I'd really like to see how it would be pulled off. A Sonic anime has been made (which i didn't really care for) and a Kirby anime (that was pretty cool).

I dunno, the characters just seem to work best in the comics medium. Can you imagine some animation studio trying to convert Bill Watterson's lush style into something that fits a TV animation budget? And then there's the matter of voices - what do the characters sound like? Casting characters who thrive in a silent medium is one of the hardest things to do.

And let's not forget that an animated series would fly in the face of Watterson's artistic vision. If the guy wants his comic strip to remain a comic strip, then I say let it stay that way.

First I'm surprised no one has mentioned a Knight Rider spin off. I think if done in the same serious tone as Ben10 Alien Force it could have a very nice following. The only question would be whether to stick to the 80's format or current considering the movie which aired last year and the series set to air this coming Wednesday. I'd be happy with either quite personally.

Second I also think a Pixars cars series would be good and considering technology they could scale down the visual budget and still have it look nice enough at least to my own knowledge. I'm not sure about plot except for it revolving around goings on in Radiator Springs but I think it could be workable.

Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley would be nice, though it would likely serve best for the same demographic as whichever Dilbert and Garfield fans would fall into. I would really enjoy seeing Bucky Katt's antics especially between Fungo Squiggly and Satchel. ^^ I know cat series have been done to death but it still should have it's own chance.

Last I would say JtHM but it's likely slim to no chance of happening though all the same would be rather nice. I would just hope that in the narrow margin which it was ever created that they for the most part keep the gray scale of the comics with some colors added though only limited to the occasion of bloodshed or whatnot. I could only see this being an HBO late night series or perhaps a direct to DVD thing considering the hassle it would have in finding an accommodating channel, though I'd certainly buy in if a production ever sees the light of day. :D

star wars rebellion:taking place in between a new hope and empire
where Luke is the most wanted man in the galaxy for blowing up the death star han solos loyalties are still questionable
and Luke is still learning how to use the force
(of coarse for a series luke will have to show a little of the same skill like in clone wars)

The comic strips Curtis and Foxtrot would make ideal cartoon series-there's a lot of stuff in those strips a lot of young people can relate to.

I'm also surprised that as popular a character as Lara Croft is, how come there's no cartoon series based on Tomb Raider?

The Great American Hero would be ideal for a cartoon series- a guy who gets a super-suit and functions as a superhero, but is forced to wing it 'cause he lost the instruction manual.

I'd like to see a cartoon about Popeye and friends as teenagers in high school. Why? It;d be interesting to see what Popeye and Brutus were like as kids and learn how they became enemies/rivals.

I missed it though...

Most of my analysis of Jhonen Vasquez's actual psyche is guess work, as he keeps the industry on its toes, but I'd say by now due to how much he's working on Non-Nny stuff like music videos and album art with MSI, I'd be surprised to see the world get so much as a book out of him in less than the next three to four years. I'll bet he has something planned in the future for animation though. The guy's too good not to...
