Car stereo wont turn on?

I checked all my fuses and they are all fine. I even ran power straight from the battery and still nothing. Also, the radio is grounded. I know the wire I ran straight from the battery is hot because I tested it on some other things in my vehicle and it powers them right up. The stereo worked just fine recently and now nothing. I was rearranging some speaker wire under my dash and it did arch on me at some point so something must have happened. Like i said my first thought was fuses but i checked them over and over......I'm thinking maybe i fried the whole stereo itself but i figured the fuses would blow before that would happen. I checked all fuses including under the hood, under the dash and the one in the stereo itself. Also i have an amp hooked up as well .....any help would be appreciated

Hi,
The same thing happened to me. That fatal spark!
I ended up taking the stereo to a repair place and one of the internal components was cooked. (transistor or diode)
It was a nice aftermarket brand stereo,so I didn't mind paying to get it fixed. They also replaced burned out lights inside the unit.

If you have placed a confirmed power line directly to the unit and it will not power up, you will have to dissassemble it to see if there is an internal fuse. they are usually located at the very rear corner of the circuit board (providing it is equipped with one).

If so, you must check continuity of the internal fuse.
If no fuse, than chances are that there is a blown diode or power transistor in the power section of the board. It is very hard to speculate what is wrong over the internet. I will be happy to help you if you have a digital camera and can take Hi resolution photos. my email is [email protected]

I hope you get it repaired

Doesn't look good for you.
Wouldn't be the first time I've seen the amp cook to save the fuse...
Lousy part is, it's probably a ten-cent diode in the unit.

The FUSE is designed to blow before anything else FOR NORMAL operation (like when you over crank the speakers). When the wires arc that is not something they can plan for. Sometime the fuse will blow and other times, parts will burn out first.

It sounds like the whole stereo is shot.

Good Luck...

that happened to me a couple months ago. if your speakers are stock they might not be strong enough for your stereo. the problem i had was that one of my speakers is about to blow so what my stereo did as a safety was shut off so that the bad speaker wouldnt damage the stereo as well. so what i did was take it in to be reset or you can probaly find the reset instructions in the handbook. anyway, after reseting its worked fine but i still havent replaced the speakers so im not sure if it will damage it in the long run or if it will happen again but so far its been normal. so if thats your problem i sugest just reseting and thinking about replacing your speakers an maybe take it to get checked out if it keeps giving you trouble. btw, my speakers are infinity gold an the stereo is panasonic. hope it helped. good luck
