car stereo doesn't work correctly?

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram with an after factor Sony radio (not installed by me). It was working fine and then one day just stopped working correctly. It will play for a bit and then nothing. Sometimes it will last 5 minutes, other times 20 minutes. Once it stops all you hear is static. If you turn it off for a bit, it will come back on. Then it stops again. The AM doesn't work at all. I don't know much about them to begin poking around.
