Just got a 1000 watt system hooked up in my 97 grand prix. 4th day of having it in battery died while driving. So first thought told me it was the car audio i just installed and when i went to look at the battery the power cord form the amp is not hooked up to the battery, it is hooked up to a fuse relay box. Could this be why my battery died?

It probably could be a reason why there is no juice left in the battery. The loose connection probably grounded the battery overnight and sucked the life out of it. Or, it could be that your car was running on its alternator last night when you shut it off because the stereo system took everything from the battery.

Re-charge the battery and see if it does it again. It shouldn't take too long to drain a battery with your stereo on.
If the battery does die then you'll have to get a better alternator, and maybe some small capacitors to build a gradual charge for your system instead of taking it directly from the car battery.

If it dies while driving it, that's a bad alternator. The battery's only job is to provide the juice to get the car started when you turn the key. Once started, the alternator is what provides all the power.

The power wire to your amp needs to have a fuse in it, one at a minimum, as close to the battery as is convenient, but always before the firewall. This protects your car from burning to a flaming crisp if your power wire ever shorts out.

Bring your car to a shop to have your battery and alternator looked at. Most Autozone/Pep boys type stores will check them for free, so I'd try that first.
