ok, my last 2 units fried due to some unknown reason, but i think it mayve been caused by the fuse being too high on its amp number, say a 20/25 amp fuse in the place of an outpoint that originally was designed for a 10/15 amp fuse.
However the car had had a cd player running like this for a relatively long time, say about 2 years, the one prior to that had fried also, and this last one most recently did too. and trust me i know the smell and the smoke that came out of the reciever's vents on top.
In any case, Ive replaced the fuses to their factory specs, and keep in mind that im using stock speakers so theyre not too much of a draw either.
I know that there are 3 wires to wire up with the harness. The RED one which is the ACC + that goes to the positive battery terminal, the YELLOW which is a wire that keeps constant power for memory purposes, and the BLACK which is the - Ground.
If I were to ground the wire to a spot on the chassis frame that I know works as a great ground. and then run the red and yellow wires on the head unit into the one wire in the car that has constant current to it for memory purposes, would it still work without having to use the car's red acc wire? (im thinking it may somehow be bad)
I'm trying to avoid frying anymore head units, getting too costly.
Also ive noticed some of my friends have the set up where their car's ignition switch is off and the key is out, yet they can still power on their head units and listen to music. thats what im trying to aqquire.
Also the car is a 1995 ford mustang gts (no power windows, power locks, or foglamps) for those who know the car inside and out.
