I want to buy some new speakers for my girlfriend's car, 2007 Chevy Cobalt 4DR, but I wanted to make sure it was worth it. The new speakers are Alpine S-Type SPS-600 in the fronts and Alpine 6" x 9"s in the back, all with high positive reviews from satisfied customers.

Will new speakers sound alot better even with the factory deck and wires supplying the watts to them? To those that only upgraded their speakers in their car and left the factory deck installed, how much did the sound improve? Thanks

The speakers are almost always the weakest link in a factory audio system. By simply changing speakers you will be very happy with the sound quality. You will notice the aftermarket speakers are much brighter with the biggest improvement being in the highs ( cymbals, etc.), so you will need turn the treble down a little but it should be well within the capability of the head unit's controls.
