Car audio, shopping where do i start?

i'm starting christmas shopping and i have found the perfect gift to get for the man but the question is where do i start....i'm planning on getting him a car stereo but i dont know where to start...he has a 2006 pontiac gran prix so do i need to get an amp and sub and the radio...i dont know what i need to get i really dont have a budget but i dont want it to be to much....maybe 350-400 dollars...i dont know what a good budget is...but yeah...any ideas would be great i dont know brands or anything so that would also be good for recammendations (i cant spell lol whoops).
 
First, off you need to start with a monoblock amplifier and subwoofers to match, also do not forget your amp kit. You will need a four channel amplifier if you have a powerful enough set of subwoofers, this is so you will be able to hear the music clearly over the subwoofers.
