Car audio MP3 Q. Bought car with cable in the dash and a switch for aux input,

uses 89.1 but cuts out? There's a cable coming out through my dash and a little switch that cuts into 89.1 but it works about half the time and then all of a sudden when I'm in range of the station or whatever it breaks through the signal. Is there an easy way to fix this? Should I just get a new radio? Was it a bad install? Tried removing the antenna but no dice.
