Car Audio Improvement?

I drive a 2003 Kia Sorento and the provided sound system is fairly decent, but not as great as I'm sure it could be. I like to get an idea of what my options are to improve my car's sound quality without replacing the system or spending a lot of money; preferably something I can do myself. Cheaper is better, but I can sacrifice a little cash for some better tunes on the road.
 
If you dont want anything crazy just swap out your stock speakers with some decent aftermarket ones from a store. Shouldn't cost anymore than $200 to get a set of back speakers and a set of door speakers.

If you want to get a new radio also that would help with sound quality and allow it to get a little louder, but you can always do that later on down the road.
